Re: Small dashboard -- firmware updates via CAN and doco.

Updated the code to use table 2. Still igmoring CANID 15 traffic. New board has been trial-installed in the car for a couple of weeks. Haven't seen anything odd happening and it's a whole lot more readable than the smaller one was. Brighter too. Here's a photo: incar.jpg Blue TRILED shows cold engin...

Re: Small dashboard -- firmware updates via CAN and doco.

Many thanks Jean, I'll change the table number, that's easy enough. Table 2 sounds fine. Is there some document covering a higher-level MS CAN protocol? I knew about CAN_ID 15 being a "broadcast address", but didn't know where broadcast requests would come from, or what they'd be asking fo...

Small dashboard -- firmware updates via CAN and doco.

I've been working quite a bit towards a new version of the little dashboard (now using CAN). It's not finished, but I thought I'd post some links to documentation in case people are interested. The main point of this message is what I've called the "Flan" protocol -- updating flash via CAN...

Re: Ego control authority

You have the "Controller auth +/-" setting which sets a symmetrical limit to EGO adjustment. I haven't done anything with MS3, but it sounds like you get to set different limits for leaner and richer. Wouldn't setting a 5% authority, whether up or down, be near enough? A quick look in the ...

Re: MAT/CLT correction table doesnt work as expected.

Yes, JS4 and JS5 are the ones. They're pretty simple circuits. Maybe make sure there wasn't a cabling problem with a continuity test. Check from the JS 4 or 5 point to the external sensor wire. If that tests ok, try a second test from the same point to MCU pin 34 or 33. If that whole path is ok, it ...

Re: MAT/CLT correction table doesnt work as expected.

Hi Martin, Common installations have two spare ADCs, but you might have used them up with BARO and, perhaps, oil temp or pressure. I'm not sure about the calculation either, but ithe correct temperature has to be something between the reading from the manifold and the one at (say) the air cleaner in...

Re: MAT/CLT correction table doesnt work as expected.

I know this is a few months old. It has been a while since I last looked in and this problem rang a bell with me. A few years ago I particpated in this thread and ended up making a special version for the guy. His initial test sounded good and he promised to get back to me with a log file so I could...

Re: CAN Data between MS PnP and DASH2Pro

Sorry. I wasn't clear. The MS document *is* the accurate reference. The dash config was wrong to say unsigned. The "minor nitpick" is that correcting this will make no difference.

Re: CAN Data between MS PnP and DASH2Pro

The thing that stands out to me in that setup is "Start bit". Strange name for it, but I'd try 0 first, then 15 or 16, since the battery voltage should be the first 16 bits of the data. Minor nitpick is that the MS document says that this is a signed value. That won't make any difference. ...

Re: Fuel or spark problem?

Glad to report success at long last. Two problems. The main, underlying problem, was the distributor had developed some slop. I had gutted the dizzy and installed a cam sensor inside, but of course it was still distributing sparks. The rotor button tab was not quite wide enough for the whole advance...

Re: Fuel or spark problem?

Thanks LAV1000, that's something I hadn't thought of. I unwrapped the loom anyway to change the grounding, so I looked pretty closely. The wires all look as-new at the one tight bend, and there are no signs of wear where it goes through the bung in the firewall. Tried ttbrendan's suggestion, but it ...

Re: Fuel or spark problem?

Thanks all for the replies. Matt Cramer, As is typical, I was sitting there blipping it (and gassing myself) for quite a while before a sync loss turned up. Something in this log that wasn't in yesterday's was a period running with the torque converter loaded against the brakes (only moderate thrott...

Fuel or spark problem?

Car had been running nicely for several years. Lately started having a few hiccups and they've gradually become worse so it's barely drivable now. Running MS2/Extra v3.4.2 (latest). MS2 on a V3 board. Odd fire V6 with 36-1 toothed wheel and cam sensor, sparking through a single coil and distributor ...

Re: Configure a board through CAN

Thanks Jean, All down to my having only a vague idea of what else TunerStudio talked to. Thought it might be more general-purpose. Should have started with "Can TunerStudio do firmware updates across CAN". I was already pretty familiar with the Megasquirt serial protocol since I needed to ...

Re: Configure a board through CAN

Thanks Jean. You only answered in terms of the IOx firmware update before. I didn't mean to test your patience. TunerStudio is a complicated piece of software. I knew it could update firmware on Megasquirts. I knew it supported various other boards. It didn't seem implausible that it might support f...

Re: Configure a board through CAN

Sorry I wasn't clear. Is there some way I might package ALL uploads to the dash with (or as) TunerStudio .ini files? I can see how to do everything via RS-232<->MS<->CAN if I write a C program (or whatever) for the laptop. I think I can see a way to create an .ini file for TunerStudio to convince it...

Re: Nitpick on CAN setup

I can sympathise with them on the legacy timing (though I've also used standard timing with my experiments and had no problems), but I don't think there's any good reason not to correct the SJW value. As it is, it's not just non-standard, it's out of bounds. Probably not a biggie -- everything I've ...

Re: Configure a board through CAN

Thanks Jean, Yeah, I was expecting to have to rejig my "fixed" firmware to receive everything via CAN. The MS2 itself can update its firmware through TS, but that's going to be special code that talks the old Motorola serial monitor commands with no path to the CAN bus. Thought some gadget...

Nitpick on CAN setup

Long time since I posted anything here. I have recently been looking at CAN for the first time. Complete newb, but that won't stop me pointing out an apparent mistake in the ms2/extra 3.4.2 release code. I don't think it's important, but it doesn't agree with the Freescale doco. In CanInit(), the ti...

Configure a board through CAN

I have only recently discovered that the CAN interface in our ECUs is NOT to plug in to modern vehicle's CAN buses, but to provide a clean option for expansion/communications. Kicking myself for having just skipped over everything about CAN all these years. Now that I have some grasp of it, I'm thin...
