feature request: loadable/savable templates
i have been wanting this for years. if i am switching between ecus i have to go and reselect the desired fields and it can take some time finding what is is i wanted. for example if i am using an ms2 then switch to an ms3 alot of fields have slightly different names and i have to remember the differences and go look for them. another would be what i am looking to tune, for example tuning cl boost or vvt tuning. the biggest headache would have to be swithcing between different brands, last track outing(lots of freinds came out) i was datalogging ms2/3 and ford ecus, i spent more time setting up the fields then actually looking at logs.
at one time i thought loading different settings via inport/export would save this and made a few settings for different occasions but nothing field wise was saved.

Great idea! This would also help me set up the templates I like across different computers.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
The good news is this was handled years back. When you select Fields, MLV stores the selected field names to a canonical naming, then when opening another log with different naming of the essentially same fields, MLV remaps them based on the naming in identified FieldMap. However, it seems after the renaming of the data log field names in the current MS2e and MS3 firmwares, the Field Maps haven't been updated to match.
So it looks like I need to add FieldMaps for the current firmwares.
Also Make sure you have the menu:
Options --> Field Naming (ECU)
set to Auto. If it is set to a specific ECU, then it will force that ECU's Field Map to that and won't auto switch.
In the mean Time you Should be able to create Quick Views specific to the current loaded log file.

Phil,
how do you save a "quick view" and transfer it to a different computer along with necessary calculated fields?

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
How do I get the Quick Views in MegaLogViewer to transfer with settings import/export? Mine don't. I can export everything from one PC and import on another and it appears to work but still the same ol Quick View's on the imported computer exist, none from the original.
Thanks

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
MS or HD?
What version..
Just now testing this out, I noticed one thing that is really a bug that might be getting you.
When importing the settings, there is an option to import into current settings, or "New Profile" This comes up in MegaLogViewer MS as well as HD, but it shouldn't come up in MS. MS does not have Settings Profiles.
So, if you import into a new profile, it goes no where. If using MS, make sure you import into the "Seeting Profile", yep that is a spelling error..

With HD, if you do an import as a new Setting Profile, it will create the new one and import it, but not change to it. You will need to select the new one, then it will prompt to restart.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
I did that, then selected the Settings Profile, found the new one in this case "Test", but still dont have any of the Quick Views.
Maybe it has something to do with this screen being cut off to the right? One of the random question marks describes things related to the charts, settings, etc. I cant tell if they are selected.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
I don't see anything cut off on the right.
It does seem your dialog is missing the "Merge with current settings dialog?? There are quite a few paths in this.. I was just messing with it and noticed if you import into a new profile, it seems to create a new profile and doesn't prompt for the restart and the new profile settings are getting over written by the current settings.
Net result it creates a new profile with the same settings you already had.
This may be the path you are attempting?

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
Oh, I see now, the question marks are to the right of the selection. My bad.
My pic was of the export apparently, but on Import I do remember seeing Merge with current settings, or create new.
It did ask to restart once or twice, and I've restarted manually just to see.
What is the exact procedure I should follow?
To be honest, it's pretty confusing, not really sure where it is going wrong.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
The more I mess with this, I'm really coming to the conclusion there are too many paths To many options, too confusing..
I _think_ how you don't have the selection to merge, is by creating a "New Profile", that creates a new profile with the same settings you already have. The purpose there is to crete a new version of what you have so you don't mess up what you had.
If you want to import settings from an exported file:
- File --> Settings import / export --> Import Settings File
- Select the File
- Select current or new - If current, you will be prompted to restart, if you selected new profile it will not restart. By selecting the profile you just imported to, it will then prompt you to restart and will do so to the new profile.
after the restart, all your tabs will be there.

I will play with this on the original laptop... I didnt realize this is how it can work, If I make it work there, I should be able to make it work everywhere.
And yes, spent many an hour getting my Graphs exactly how I want them, afraid to mess them up!
Thanks for all the help - I'll update once I get it figured out.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
ok.. I think somthing is messed up.
Originally I only had a profile called "Dan1". This contained 3 tabs in teh graphs, "Default", "Tuning, "Default". In that order. Both Defaults were exactly the same and are my fully organized graphs, how I like them.
I then went to "Settings Profile" then "New Setting Profile". It asked for a name, so I chose Dan2. Then asked me to "Export" all of those settings which did not have the choose to merge since it was creating a new profile is my guess.
Then, it restarted, and then the default views are much different, how it looks like a new software install with no customization, but the Profile was still Dan1, now showing these tabs: "Default", "Tuning", "Dan1", "Default". The Default tabs are completely blank, Tuning might be how the original Tuning was, but now I have a new Quick View tab called Dan1, but it is basic, much like the OEM Fresh Install Default view would be.
My custom graphs I spend all the time on are now under Dan2, and the Quick Views appear to be exactly how I left them in the new Dan2 profile: (Default, Tuning, Default).
I expected a new Profile called Dan2, exactly matching the original profile Dan1. It erased Dan1 and replaced it with some strange Default config, and copied my settings to Dan2.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
In addition to the last post, I simply tried to import an export of my settings on the same computer... called Dan3, so
1) Import Settings File
2) Import to New Settings Profile with new name (i used Dan3 - not into current settings profile)
3) Settings Profile, Choose Dan3, then software restarts.. it says I'm in the new Dan3 profile, but still I have to Default quick views that are blank, and a Tuning view that has basic channels.
SO then I try to Import Settings again, this time Import into "current Seeting Profile: Dan3"... choose "Replace Current Settings" and nothing! Restart...
Then I tried the same thing this time "Merge with current"... reboot.. and nothing.
Not working! What am I doing wrong? It almost seems like the Export Settings isnt creating a valid file? The file is being created.. just not importing anything.

Re: feature request: loadable/savable templates
I started playing with this too, and it definitely is not working as expected/intended on MLVHD. I configured some Quick Views on my main laptop, updated the profile and restarted (which in itself is a bit un-intuitive), which is all well and good. But when I tried exporting and then re-importing on another machine, it seemed the Quick View tabs made it, with only some of the settings I defined.

UPDATE!!
After playing around much more and not appearing to get anywhere, decided just to start from scratch and set my Log Viewer Graphs line by line to match the orignal, come to find out the X and Y scale settings do carry over, just not the graphs themselves. For example if I import the settings from the orignal computer, it appears as if no settings carried over.
When I add the individual Graph channels one by one to match the original computer, then all of the scale settings are set to the imported file.
It gets better.. many of the Histogram settings carry over as well! Not all (like the cell color based on value), but most of the other things do.
So really, the only thing that doesnt carry over are the Graph channels. need to set them to whatever you had on the original computer!
