Trace selection via textfile

Post by Marek »

I have a laptop with a very small screen. If I wish to have multiple graphs on the screen with many traces on each, I am unable to navigate down the quick views to select the traces I want to appear on the lower graphs. Is it possible, via a text file or setting somewhere, to select all of the graphs, traces and colours which will appear on the screen, as the menu options appear below the bottom of the screen and I can't see how to navigate to them conventionally?

kind regards
Marek

Is it a small screen or are you having trouble with a high dpi display?
I was using MLV on a high dpi display the other day and it was certainly a challenge. Everything was too small.
high DPI displays are getting much more common on windows, I need to get that resolved on pretty short order.

It's a small screen. The writing is perfectly readable, but if a large dialogue box is opened, it simply disappears off of the bottom of the screen and I don't know what is down there. Trying to navigate "below the screen" simply makes Windows think that the taskbar is being called for. If the screen setings were stored in a separate file somewhere (e.g. an hlv.properties type file, then it'd be easy to set up the number of graphs, their component traces etc offline and load up a log with the required display characteristics.

I run a v12 and so often want to have 12 traces per graph, with maybe 3 or 4 graphs in total as data gets cluttered but there is simply no way of being able to set more than about 28 lines of data in quick view, i.e. I can't even get to edit a 3rd graph.

kind regards

Yes, you can edit it using a text file. It's also a lot easier to set min/max values that way - I too have the "too many fields" problem.
The file you need is mlvUser.properties
On Linux that file is in ~/.efianalytics

In the HD version, the files holding the screen specific views appear to be hlv.properties and hoglogviewer.properties

I would like to suggest a feature enhancement at some future date, that these files be changed to hlv1.properties and hoglogviewer1.properties, so that if multiple copies of MegalogviwerHD are loaded, different default views can be selected for each successive copy of MLV loaded (e.g. hlv2.properties,hlv3.properties etc) - this way you could look at quite a lot of data easily by flipping from one copy of MLV to another without the continuous editing of the left side of the screen. As a bonus, there would be less need to have multiple graphs per view which means that what is selected would thus be seen with better resolution, which would be a help, given the propensity of users who no doubt view on a laptop or tablet whilst still in car.

Marek

Thank you for the suggestion. I will let Phil know about this when he gets back in town and see what he thinks about it.
