Composite logger bug ?

Post by Manu »

Hello,

I made a composite logger on my car today and after review it, either in MLV MS or MLV HD, I can find some strange screen :

Image

At the same time the engine is running well without synclost and .CSV file don't let me believe there is something odd here. Is this a bug in MLV ?

Bests,
Manu

The Composite Log Viewer makes the determination of whether the log is single edged or double edged based on trigger level being all high or all low for single edge, vs both high and low if it is double edged.

For some reason on some of your pages, where you see the spike low, there is a record with a low trigger even though the trigger events are otherwise high. That makes it look like a double edged log and it renders that page accordingly. That rendering is less than ideal.

However, the question remains why are there occasional trigger events where the Primary Level = 0?

Almost certainly a noise pulse.

Hi,

Thank for explanations. So in fact this is just a graphical representation ?

I'm not sure to understand : because on a certain page there is a low level trigger all high level triggers aren't displayed ?

I saw this kind of situation on several cars recently with very different wheel arrangements. This was annoying as I didn't understand what happen. What is also intriguing is that I can reproduce this with a jimstim. I didn't aware that a jimstim can send false triggers.

Doesn't this lead in a synclost ? Here it didn't.

Thanks.

For example here a long log. Look at the screen 46/100. There is a tooth with 692.0014 ms duration. No SyncLost ?

When you click in the big gap, check where it jumps to in the data view
0.0 1.0 0.0 1.0 0.08118 66692.83
1.0 1.0 0.0 1.0 0.11352 66692.945
0.0 0.0 0.0 1.0 0.08052 66693.02
0.0 0.0 1.0 1.0 692.0014 67385.02
1.0 0.0 0.0 1.0 0.17226 67385.195
0.0 0.0 0.0 1.0 0.08052 67385.27
1.0 0.0 0.0 1.0 0.11352 67385.39
The X Axis is scaled on time and that big 692.0014 is way big, each other record is closer to 0.1ms, so that 1 record takes up most of the screen...

Yes, it is a graphical representation of the data in that left hand view. That is all the rendere has to go on.
I'm not sure to understand : because on a certain page there is a low level trigger all high level triggers aren't displayed ?
There are 2 main modes when rendering the view.
Single edge - As your 1st log is
Double Edge - As this 2nd log with the big gap.

In either view, there are yellow dots where each data point is, that is the actual data. The blue and green lines the viewer generates according to the mode it is in.

When in single edge, it adds a blue line up (or down) from the base line as an indicator of the trigger event.

When in double edge mode, it will make a blue line left to right until the time of the next trigger event, then go high or low depending on where the next trigger event is.

So in your 1st log, on those pages with a bad data point; there are both high and low trigger events, normally a single edge log should not have that. Thus the renderer renders it as a double edge log. Notice all the yellow dots are there, but they are mostly all high, so it just keeps drawing a line along the top where the good data is, when it gets to that bad point, it goes down over and up like it is a double edge log.

Yes Phil I know that as I wrote it in my previous message. My question is more : why a sync fault isn't triggered here as there is really a sync problem. A 692.0014 ms theeth can't happen here...

I also can reproduce this on the stim. Is it a firmware problem, a communication problem or a TS problem ?

Bests,
Manu

You would need to create a custom.ini that datalogs looptime.

Or drop the attached one into your TS projects projectCfg folder.
