Setup of HP/TQ calculated fields...

Post by hobieboy »

I entered the required numbers (Weight = 3000lb, Cd=0.4, Frontal Area=21 ft^2, Tire pressure=34psi) when selected the HP field then re-load the data log per the dialog box.

But when I review the HP numbers after, I am not sure I understand how does it correlate to what the car is doing. For example, when I go to the point where MAP is max for this log (time=142.959 or MAP=188.8kpa), I can see HP has a peak but then it peaks again a few seconds later when throttle is lifted which doesn't make sense.

And I also don't understand how can HP be negative.

Did I do something wrong?

thanks!

It looks like it is working off your GPS speed which has a pretty slow update rate and is lagging.

Check the trace MPH, you can see the steps that end up matching up with the big HP humps.

It is on the todo list to make a function to deal with slow speed updates.

Negative power comes from anytime the car is slowing faster than the drag forces should slow it, so if you hit the breaks.

Yes, this data log was recorded via ShadowDash so has GPS info.
I tried to load another data log that was recorded thru TS from a laptop, but with that, none of the HP/HP KPH/TQ etc fields would show up.
Is there anyway to make MLV calculates HP/TQ based only on data log from TS / laptop that doesn't have GPS sensors?

thanks!

If you have an MS3 you can use the VSS

I am using MS3 (with MS3X). How does VSS work / what do I need to do to set up in this situation?

thanks!

To set up the MS3 to use the VSS, or get MLV to use VSS as an input?

I don't see a VSS1 field in your log.

duh - too late at night when I last replied
I don't have any VSS connected to the system. It sounds like the easiest way is to upgrade to the 10Hz GPS for ShadowDash - will that give enough resolution for decent calculation?

thanks!
