Megalogviewer file types

Post by Mike Coles »

I have a registered copy of Megalogviewer MS v4.1.10, and also inadvertently downloaded a trial version of MV HD Lite 4.1.10.
I now have a situation where .msl files open with registered MS, and .csv files open with HD Lite. Can you explain the different file types and their application in Megalogviewer?
My real problem (and this may be a TunerStudio issue) is that my TunerStudio opens .csv files in "Diagnostics and High Speed Loggers", and it also writes to .csv files when I run a log.
Is this a selectable option in TS? Can I change it to write to .msl and therefore open in the correct version?
Have I got this whole situation confused?

TS saved Ignition Logs and High Speed Logs to .csv, all regular data logs are written to .msl files.

The file association for .msl will be what ever app you ran the installer for last.

You can change the default app to open by doing this:
- Right click on an msl file
- Select "Open With"
- Find MegaLogViewer HD
- Check Use as Default (verbiage may vary with windows version)

Thanks for your reply.
When I use the High Speed Logger (Composite Logger) I expected to get more than just a .csv.
Megalogviewer doesn't seem to produce a .msl for me, and I only see ignition triggering info.
I am new to this, and have produced several short Composite logs (I have a start-up problem!), all .csv with limited information.
I still think I might be missing something very basic.
Is there anything to be gained by sending you my .msq ?

In TunerStudio go to the Datalogging menu and select Start Logging.

I WAS missing something very basic!
In initial testing, the MS2 Setting Up manual directed me to Diagnostics and High Speed Loggers/Composite Logger, end every time I tried to log from then on, that's where I went. I focussed on that tab whenever logging, and couldn't work out why I was only getting ignition sensing; the term "Composite Logger" also led me to believe I was doing a much wider ranging log, and of course, I was always disappointed with what I got.
I now realise that if I had read the manual properly, I would have seen Datalogging/StartDatalogging is another tab at the top, and from where I should have been doing my datalogs.
Slightly embarrassed, I'll continue looking for my start-up problem, now armed with some good datalogging information.
Thanks for putting me on the right path.
