MLV will not open files

Post by rickb794 »

OSX registered version

Last few months I have tried to open log files from other forum users unsuccessfully.

I thought It was a problem on their end.

Download msl file
Select View with MLV from TS
File selection window opens
Navigate to file highlight and click open
window disappears and nothing happens

I have a very old TS registration, is it no longer valid for MLV?
Can't find my registration email..... on first try.

Will the same files open correctly when you open them from a running MLV instance?

Do your msl files open just fine when you open them from TS? (if so please attach both the file that works and the ones that dont)

Email support@efianalytics.com from the email address that you used to register. Just ask for them to resend your registration.

Try this:

To reset MegaLogViewer Location used in TS:
1) click on "Data Logging" menu
2) Right click "View with MegaLogViewer"
3) Click "yes" when prompted to "Reset and Clear MegaLogViewer Location"

Haven't gotten it to work either (OSX).
I have the free versions of MLV MS and HD downloaded, but have the paid TS MS Ultra-version.
Tried resetting the location of MLV in TS a few times, I don't think TunerStudio recognizes the apps as other programs, or it's only looking for a .sh shell script that launches the MLV app perhaps, which doesn't happen.
Only the MLV HD-version (the Non-Windows version) has (a directory with) a file with MegaLogViewer.sh in it.
But is also contains ".exe" files, so I don't think this is the correct "Non-Windows" OSX/Linux-version at all.

Something else I noticed while trying to figure out the differences between the free versions of MLV MS and HD;
With MLV MS, I can view full .msl logs, but only view record-limited Comp and Trigger/Tooth logs.
With MLV HD, the .msl logs are record-limited as well, but the HD-version has limited Scatter Plot function.

On another note, I find the TS/MLV/EFIanalytics website(s) can be quite confusing and could use some more clearification and simplifying on what is offered, what is functional, and in which version. But this is stuff for another topic me thinks.

You may be right... I think TS is still looking for a .sh file to kick off for OS X. It is not set up to kick off the MegaLogViewer OS X install. We will have to look into that.

Yes, I think I had seen that info before somewhere, but it took some clicking to get there I recall, but a similar feature-overview for MLV would be beneficial for new users imo.

Also, when starting MLV HD as unregistered user, it lands on the Register-page.
Here it shows this line "Register MegaLogViewer HD and unlock all the features to tune your bike right.".
When I saw this text for the first few times I thought MLV HD was probably ment for bikes only, so I never looked further into the app.

Well I did the reset and when I tried to open a downloaded MSL it asked where MLV lives.
I pointed it at /applications megalogviewer_v2.959 megalogviewer.sh but fails to launch.

If I try to launch the .jar directly it errors out with a message to look in the console log for error message. WTF?

If I run the bash command from the .sh file "java -Xms32m -Xmx200m -jar MegaLogViewer.jar" in a terminal it errors with "Unable to access jarfile MegaLogViewer.jar"

Maybe it's not in the path,
"admin$ man path"
"No manual entry for path"

admin$ show path
-bash: show: command not found

admin$ display path
-bash: display: command not found

admin$ print path
-bash: print: command not found

admin$ type path
-bash: type: path: not found

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU I used to know how to do this.......

admin$ man commandpath
No manual entry for commandpath

type command path
command is a shell builtin
-bash: type: path: not found

Tore up the house looking for my BASH Nutshell book, still trying to figure out where it went.
Switching to google....

Bingo
admin$ echo $PATH
/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin

That explains why I cant run it from a terminal, but I think OSX handles stuff differently.

java -version
java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-462-11M4609)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-462, mixed mode)

admin$ java -jar MegaLogViewer.jar
Unable to access jarfile MegaLogViewer.jar

UNABLE TO ACCESS Is this a permissions issue? Running repair.....

Ran Applejack found and repaired problems, but MLV still will not run.

rickb794, what version OS X do you have?

What version of MegaLogViewer are you trying to run? I see mention of 2.959. That is sort of 8 years out of date and VERY unrelated to the OP issue with an OS X installer.

10.9.5 OSX

I assumed that my up to date TS would have included MLV updates.

Silly me....

Updating Thanks
