MLV HD Error

Post by Rick Finsta »

I'm getting some kind of error when I try to open MLV HD; incorrect/invalid .jar file so I think this is Java related. I can re-install the latest version and have the loader open it after install, but as soon as I close it out and try to re-open it I get the error. What do I need to get you to figure this out? It is happening on my tablet but not my desktop. Latest Java version and all Win10 updates on both.

Thanks!

32 bit on the tablet?
How much RAM?

Do you know what version MLV it is?

32bit Windows 10, MLV HD v4.1.15 (it happened with 4.1.09 also which is why I upgraded and thought it fixed it since it always works the first time LOL).

The actual error is:

Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile HogLogViewer.jar

This is an Asus Vivotab Smart ME400C with 2GB of physical memory.
Java is version 8 update 121 (build 1.8.0_121-b13)

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks!

There was a problem with the kick off exe where on 32 bit computers it was requesting more RAM than it is allowed.
However, this was supposed to be fixed by 4.1.15

If you browse to the install folder and double click the jar, does it open? (You would need a JRE installed for this to work.)

It seems Ok on my 32 bit 2GB tablet.
Perhaps try running the installer again, see if that fixes it.

I have run the installer several times (each time I want to use MLV I reinstall and it opens right up). It just won't ever open a second time LOL.

Sorry, JRE = Java Runtime Environment? I'm not sure what is involved in that but I've heard the term enough to recognize the initialism...

EDIT: I just tried and clicking the .jar file itself gives the same error - invalid or corrupt.

Hmm, that would say it is launching from the exe fine.

Yep... You don't normally need one when running on Windows or OS X as there is a Java Runtime built into MegaLogViewer, that is only used when you launch with the exe / startup icon. If you double click the jar, it will use what ever Java is installed on the PC

Ok, that would imply there is another problem. Normally that would mean there is a problem with the jar file, but if it launched after running the installer there can not be.
The other thing that would give the error is if your Java is too old, but it is compiled for 1.7+, I doubt you have a 1.6 JRE on windows 10.

I may need you to work with Brian at support @ efianalytics. com to see what is going on here.

WILCO. I'll drop him an email. Incidentally I just upgraded to the latest Java (build 131) and it is still happening.

BTW I never solved this until I just updated to 4.2.01 (which auto-updated to 4.2.02 without issue). Thanks, Phil!
