'False Start' logs

Post by BigBlockMopar »

For sometime I've noticed when starting a log, that 2 log files are made by TS.
The first one is usually a very small file, containing only a few seconds of data where you can see the engine startup.
The other file is the actual log.

The Datestamp in the filename shows the 2nd, full log, is generated just a few seconds later than the first tiny log.

One thing I can think of is that whenever I start a log, I have the filename-screen pop-up so I can hit Enter to start saving the logfile and do some driving.
Could it be TS has already started logging in the background and starts a new, full log after I've hit Enter?
I can imagine the time passed between starting the log from the menu, and me hitting Enter in the window screen could take 1 to few seconds.

I've added a bunch of tiny logs together in one Zip for comparison.

So these aren't auto triggered logs, normal logs started from the menu?

yep, manually started from the menu.
Logs are saved on a Windows tablet.

I've thought of a voltage dip while starting maybe interfering. My previous Optima battery was old and tired and caused a big dip down to 7-9volts during starting. But my current Optima battery is fresher and doesn't produce this large of a dip.
Also thought, although felt unlikely, about the USB cable maybe catching some interference during the startup or when I put the tablet away on the drivers seat when I drive off, but this takes a few seconds more usually.

The MS3x ECU is mounted in the dashboard (open glovebox compartment).
At first I used a long USB cable from the MS box to the tablet, along with a USB to minUSB adapter. The adapter made the connection flimsy at the table, so now I'm using an in-dash extension cable from the MS box to the ashtray in the dash, and from the solid mounted connector to a shorter USB cable straight to the tablet.

I've added the most recent 'full' log. The top one in the screenshot I posted earlier.
