Re: MS2 to MicrosquirtV3 swap, no longer communicating
well guys, time for an update from me.
I sent back my Microsquirt to EFIsource and they shipped my a replacement.
turns out.. the old one was a dud!
Plugged in the new microsquirt, loaded firmware piece of cake, computer saw it out of the box. car fired right up.
very happy to say the least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBr7GTWdDcg

Re: MS2 to MicrosquirtV3 swap, no longer communicating
so, I went back and started the engine today while tightening up the engine mounting and tidying up wires and the engine started up just fine, but started to die, then MS sometimes caught it and brought it back briefly to idle but that cycle would keep up until it would eventually die. still getting good sync.
my lack of IACV the issue? insufficient fuel? erronout MAP signal?
thoughts?
attached is a video of it doing its thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa9G0G19LHg

attached is a log ( I think? ) never done a log before so lmk if thats not right.
Re: MS2 to MicrosquirtV3 swap, no longer communicating
I re watched my first start and this second start. the only thing I can see thats different between them was the first start had a static MAP reading of about 90kPa and the second start had an active MAP reading that varried quite a lot but stayed around 55kPa when it was idling.
my wideband is sitting in an exhaust port, so I think autotune VE is out of the question here, suggestions? lean out the map manually?

Are you saying you have no exhaust on the motor?
If so, stop right there as installing exhaust will dramatically change the fueling requirements.
Put the exhaust on and finish it, then tune.

Correctly identify your MS ecu here

exhaust will get done at some point but not now as it is a $3,750 bill I don't look forward to.
I know it can idle because it did when i first started it.
I'm simply asking what changed, or what should I change to get it to respond and idle properly.

Assuming you haven't got a different calibration on the MAP sensor in your tune, you've got a throttle sticking, air valve open or different ignition timing on start up. These can all affect engine vacuum.CISbgone wrote:I re watched my first start and this second start. the only thing I can see thats different between them was the first start had a static MAP reading of about 90kPa and the second start had an active MAP reading that varried quite a lot but stayed around 55kPa when it was idling.

The log you posted has the MAP signal stuck at about 109 kPa.

ok, I will replace the vacuum line on the MAP sensor (old Mercedes hose, may be cracked).
the second run when I logged, the video, shows the MAP reading moving around. first run when the MAP was stuck at 103kPa, it ran.
thoughts on why the stuck MAP reading would make it run better?

I don't currently have an air valve operating, however there is one on the manifold and it is open to the atmosphere. perhaps I should plug it.
thanks for the pointer.

That's virtually always a sign your tune is too lean.CISbgone wrote: thoughts on why the stuck MAP reading would make it run better?
I wasn't watching the video as they usually are very difficult to use as a substitute for a data log.

that makes good sense, thanks for the pointers guys.
EDIT: also, your book is extremely well-written, just picked that up.
