Shift solenoid operates with throttle!!!

Post by mjhillen »

I am trying to use the sequential shift with a momentary switch to operate an ignition kill/air shifter. Currently, the shift solenoid operates anytime the RPM and TPS threshold is reached. I have checked the wiring and it is intact and functioning correctly. The system will work correctly with the button but when it self activates, the signal to the solenoid doesnt follow the time delay for false shifts.
I have checked to see that the ALED isnt being used on another function.

Any thoughts???

How do you have the switch wired to the SPRADC2 pin? I don't see a suggestion given in the manual, and the 'FLEX with a switch' sketch (right beside the Spare ADCs) shows the switch wired directly to the pin.

The problem that may be happening is that, unlike the Flex pin, the ADCs don't have a pull-up (unless the internal PU is set in the code ...), so it could be floating, and perhaps coming on slightly randomly. Also - why do you have your SeqShift arming at 1800rpm & 15% TPS? Quick shifting is used while WFO and pushing past max power, not trundling along on a cracked throttle. I note your launch control is set to 3000 rpm, which I assume is your max torque speed. The sequential shift arm should be set even higher than that, and a LOT closer to 100% TPS.
Temporarily shut down - back soon!

I can add a pull up resistor if needed. Not sure about the code. Spare ADC is the only wire I have unused so I don't have a choice.
The settings are low as to watch it's activation. I wanted to prove it was following the tettings. I started with it @4500 and 75%.

You can run the PU under the bottom cover of the MicroSquirt; 1k from VRef to SPRADC2. This guy posted up a really good pic of internal PU jumpers in a uS.

I wired in a 1k resistor and there is no change. Regardless of what the settings are in the software, the solenoid will operate as soon as the throttle is operated. Any way to look at the code and see if there is an error for the solenoid output? Any other ideas?

I had a look and unless I'm mistaken the solenoid output is pulsing on and off randomly all the time? I can't currently explain that. The input looks ok.
EDIT: I was looking at WLED by mistake.

I tested this. I'm not seeing the behaviour you report. However, I found some different problems that were preventing the feature from operating correctly with certain input or output pins.

Send me a PM with your preferred email address and I can send you a code to try.

The new code seems to work correctly. I wasnt able to use TS firmware loader. I kept getting an message that "Unknown monitor version", had to use the bootloader wire to get it to accept the new code. Everything seems to work at this point. Thanks

....Except, when i turn the sequential shift OFF in the TS, the system begins to operate with the throttle again. Not a big issue for me with my setup but may be for others.
