Running wideband controller ONLY when engine is on?

Post by Spiffy »

What's the best way of doing this? Running via fuel or efi relay or using some of the outputs from the ms2?

FWIW....... I prefer using the Fuel pump relay for that purpose.......

But what about fuel pump priming? Will it hurt it by going on and off shortly?
Kind of paranoid after I killed my sensor

This is what Innovate suggests which still allows communicating with their controller with the ignition on.
If you wire it to the fuel pump relay, it will turn off in a few seconds if you don't start the engine.

Possible interesting article about (short) 02-sensor life from Bosch;

This how mine is connected, the problem is it allows the sensor to be heated even if the engine is cold, say you're fiddling with something like setting up your efi system or troubleshooting something which requires ign=on. Then when you start it condensation hits your warmed up sensor and it gets thermal shock like mentioned in the article big block posted.
I'm pretty sure this is why mine died now, that and contamination from running too rich for a while...

Yeah I ticked most of the boxes in that article unfortunately, trying to make it right this time...

I know there are time delay relays available so if you use one like that you can avoid it turning on with the fuel pump priming.
But I guess you could use an output from the ecu also?

It's an issue with my rather old Tech Edge. The display goes off and reads 'nd' if you switch it off and on again quickly - as with the fuel pump priming pulse.
So mine is simply powered by the main relay and must be pushing 10 years old by now. But then I don't tend to leave the ignition on without starting the engine.
