Electric fan control

Post by bluebob »

Hi is there a way of checking to see if my ms2 has the relevant settings and wiring for switching a electric fan on through a relay?

The output port setting are as follows
enabled tick
Power on value 0
trigger value 1
coolant greater than 85 threshold, hysteresis 10.0
no additional condition set

Any help would be appreciated.
Only I don't see why i should have to use another controller if the ecu has the capabilities for doing so.

The settings seem reasonable, but what port are those settings for?

The MS is most certainly capable of controlling the cooling fan relay field if you built the circuit to do so and the settings you put in your post look fine but you just need to decide which port you have available and wire it accordingly . Did you build the MS and what board are you using ?

Hi,
No I didn't build the board.
It was built for me. Its a ms2 extra with version 3?

Was the board build with hardware to control a fan relay? If you're not sure, you will have to open the enclosure.

OK, that's not a problem . Would a photo of the board be of help ?

Yes, a couple of clear pictures of the board would be helpful. Also, for which port (D15, FIDLE, IAC1, etc.) were the settings in your first post?

I'll check and get back to you.
Is there a way I can take a screen shot of tunerstudio to include it in the post?

Don't do that. Attach an MSQ. See the Help page here for details on how.

Hi, James.
When i put a msq on, do i have to be online for it to capture everything you need?

this is an example( i dont have iac valve so i use those spare ports as outputs). with this, fan will only turn on when engine is running. if you use your current settings, when engine is warmed up & dont running & with key on, fan will be on all the time. so this prevents fan on when engine is not running.

you will only need to use your own trigger value, power on value , temp and hystereis.

If you're not using the FIDLE output for an idle valve, you can use it to control a fan control relay. Those settings are fine, though you might consider adding a second condition as maik21 suggested.

I don't think I'm using a idle valve.
So using another would be best.
Whats the best way to go about this then.
I've attached a pic of my board also this time.

That picture isn't detailed enough to tell you much about the ECU, but as long as you're not using an idle valve, there's no reason you can't use the FIDLE output for fan control.

Ok, Is there anywhere in particular I should be looking on the board or to concentrate a photo on? When I resized it it shrunk it a fair bit.

What, specifically, do you need to know about it?

Here is a better pic, I hope. And a try at some ouput settings. If these settings are ok. Which pin do i need to take a wire from to switch my relays?

Connect pin 30 on the DB37 connector (the FIDLE pin) to your fan relay.

Thanks,
I'll give that a try.
Can i force the fans on to test the settings?
