Tach output issue

Post by tacomatic1 »

I have an aftermarket tachometer that is only reading half what it should. My truck is 4 cylinder. I tried an autometer tach that I also had lying around and I am having the same issue. Turning tacho output (in extended settings in TS) on or off doesn't make a difference, reads half.

Don't know where to start...megasquirt reads the correct RPM on tunerstudio...just need to get that bloody signal somehow!

Many aftermarket tachometers can be adjusted; have you adjusted yours for the correct number of cylinders? Also, it looks like the "speed" setting is set to "half speed" and not "normal" in the tachometer output settings.

It's not adjustable. Was working fine on the factory ecu previously.

I have tach output turned off. Still get a signal to the tach like this. At half or normal it still reads the same.

It sounds like maybe you're using a different pin than the settings reflect. Did you build the tachometer output circuit yourself?

I did not, which is part of the problem.

That's a DIYAutoTune-specific product, so you might contact them directly or wait for them to comment on this thread. We're sorry we can't be of further assistance.

What is the tach wired to? Is it triggered like a factory setup, or triggered by the DIYPNP tach output?

Found the issue.

My TS was setup as MS2 in the project settings. Set it as DIYPNP and now I can select the correct tach out in the settings. :D

And this was exactly the problem, aka wrong hardware was selected in the project settings.

I am having this same issue with my Microsquirt V3 setup.

4cylinder car with coil on plug ignition. rpm on tach is 1/2 that of true rpm (TS is correct rpm). When i change from normal setting to half setting in tach output, the rpms are 1/4 correct reading

:msq:

My Volvo tune

Tacho output enabled "ON"
"Normal" speed

This is with the relay coil mod (MS2)
Microsquirt may be different and is likely different than the PNP in this topic.

You say COP but, you have wasted spark set????
Wasted COP on a banger would use 4 ignition outputs
Wasted spark would be 2 double ended coils
or COP fired in pairs

Bonus! you now have an 18000 rpm tach! 8)
