I notice you don't have the step idle for the uS in the last table.

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
Section 3.5.4 of the Microsquirt hardware document shows an internal diode on the FIdle circuit: there is no such diode. And it is needed in many cases to have a working setup. So an external one is needed and that should be noted there.

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
I'm not sure where I got that information from, perhaps I had the V357 layout in my head as that DOES include the diode.racingmini_mtl wrote:Section 3.5.4 of the Microsquirt hardware document shows an internal diode on the FIdle circuit: there is no such diode. Looks good and clear (at least to me).

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
yeah that works for me to with the diode, a quick question re the shunt resistor if you use the internal pads its just a case of connection the pads together? as from the b&g manual i got the impression you had to add a resistor and i didn't fancy that much, but on say a bike with vibration it may be a more robust method.

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
From the schematics, bridging the pads as per the manual simply connects an already installed shunt resistor. No need to install anything else.

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
wondering if links to helpful tech videos could be added? or more info on things like PID tuning... for newer people like me... because I hate asking on the forum because I feel as if I'm a bother sometimes. I guess some things would be much better if it had some more layman explanations.. sometime the terms used don't make sense at first!!!! of coarse in time I'm sure it on your bust to do list..... thanks again for every bit of help everyone has giving me!!!!!!

MS2 v3.0 Hardware Guide PDF - http://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/MS2V30_H ... de-3.3.pdf
Section 3.4.9 - Spare ADCs
3.4.9.1 Analogue inputs
The JS4, JS5 connections on the MS2 card can be used as 0-5V analogue inputs.
Parts required. One 10k 1/8W (or 1/4W) resistor, one 0.22uF 10V ceramic capacitor.
The diagram shows a 1k 1/8w resistor. Not sure if a typo was made or the diag is incorrect.
Great work on the manuals!!

MS2V30_Hardware_Guide-3.3
5.2.14.2 Adding a cam sensor input - hall sensor / optical sensor
This option uses the spare opto-isolator on the mainboard for the cam input and matches the polarity inversion
of the VR/universal tach input.
This section is for open-collector sensors as covered in 5.2.3 that ground switch only.
a) The OptoIn pad should be connected to a spare pin on the main DB37 connector (e.g. SPR3)
b) Connect OptoOut to JS10 (ensuring that nothing else is connected.)
c) Jumper XG1 - XG2
d) Check that R12 is a 390R to 470R resistor, replace if not.
e) Install a 470R 1/4W resistor on the proto area to +5V.
f) Jumper the other end of the 470R resistor to OptoIn (joining the jumper wire there.)
g) Ensure that C30 is not fitted.
Using OptoIn pad to get the CAM signal to the 4n25 opto, D1 and D2 are not mentioned (jumpers should be installed in place of D1 and D2 - since the C.3 Assembly manual says not to install them) - this could be added just to avoid confusion with new users

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
Hi James,
I didn't read through the whole thread, but just wanted to say the HEI 7/8 section worked good for me. I used the docs to take my V3 board which was getting no RPM signal, re-worked all the board mods as listed in the PDF manual and it now works. I bench tested it with an actual distributor via a relay board and it also works with my ancient stim (2005ish).

Hello James,
In MS2-Setting_Up-2014-06-20.pdf you wrote : page 27 => 2.12.1 Control Algorithm choice :
Speed Density uses the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor to determine load. In this case,
the vertical axis of any fuel table lookups is in kilopascals (kPa).
I think this sentence may be replicated for others algorithm with adapted value : ex. :
Alpha-N uses the TPS (throttle) sensor to determine load. In this case,
the vertical axis of any fuel table lookups is in TPS% Open (%).
Cheers,
Manu

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
I think it is a good idea to include in the hardware manual a table of all current pin usage like the one in the old manuals. Each section mentions what pins can be use for that section but in a hurry one table with all the information is useful.

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
Hello James,
I'm a bit confusing with 'MS2-Setting up' manual. I think that there is a problem between section 2.18 and section 2.21. Both section are relative to timing control with a strobe, and both section say to adjust tooth#1 angle. One is for cranking advance checking, the other for running advance checking.
Normally if section 2.18 is OK, there is no need to change tooth#1 again as say in section 2.21. And if so, section 2.18 is now wrong.
I think there is a double information here that can confuse user. Also, why didn't you speak about the "trigger wizard" function at this point ? May it be useful to re-think this section ?
Cheers,
Manu

Re: MS2 new documentation discussion
I'll have a look at those sections. Trigger wizard was likely ignored as it doesn't apply to the toothed wheel mode.
