went to closed loop control still in setup mode. but boost is not controlled tell around 10kpa below barometric pressure.
so i setup a generic output to control vgt off boost. Helps response and to maintain boost thru shift.
2 weeks no issues
wish i had done this 2 years ago

Added a spool switch just grounds boost duty to arduino. get 5psi at 3500 rpm maintaining 55 mph. at 4000 around 10 psi.
Kills boost lag before a pass.
got more tunning to do to closed loop control. i'll post msq and data logs after a few more changes.

Lots of rain and a little snow here in sunny California. So no real good data logs maybe Friday the weather is supposed to be ok.

100% boost duty is vgt position 750
Initial duty table needs some adjustment and boost target table is set up optimistically.

My setup does not need an external waste gate.
the vgt flows enough to control boost on my setup.

Everything i just read is what i have been waiting to see for a long time, ha. I have had a very clean he351ve sitting in my garage for years now, hoping ms control would actually work when i got around to using it. Nice to see someone making progress, i will need to consult you once i decide what vehicle gets the turbo first.

i have the choice of;

1988 E30 m20b25
1984 4x4 Toyota 22re
1976 Rn28 Toyota 20r

The e30 would get some studs and run <13psi.
The 84 has a giant valve head, once i finish building the block (forged pistons and head studs), it will be nearly the most overbuilt 22re i have seen outside of lce products.
With the 76, i kind of want to turn BEAMS 3sge into a monster and attach it to an r154 from a later pickup, but even just trying to have fun with the 20r wouldn't be hard if i could utilise propane injection.

Either way i will be pickup up two ms3's before long, then start buying more engine parts and more turbos. The vehicle closest to being ready would definitely be the 84, as it already has a built ms2 and harness. I would need to buy the right arduino and basically have to research coding for it, as i need to also implement automatic transmission solenoid control on top of the vgt, but that sounds like a fun learning experience, so i am ready for it.

the latest 1.5a code has he351ve can bus in it.
Unfortuantly it doesn't work I spent a good part of a day trying to sniff the can bus with Arduino.
lil blackbox Arduino vgt control works good. http://community.lilbb.com/index.php
up to 500 hp vgt can control boost.

What was the problem with the CAN sniffer?

I was using a sparkfun canbus shield. The problem is in my setup. Laptop and arduino
I could get some other canbus info from ms3. But it never read out right. I got nothing from the Arduino running the turbo. Same from ms3 when only broadcasting he351ve.
I'm working on front suspension right now and a carport door horizontal bi fold. Custom fit carport is from 60's built using old telephone poles.
When I finish the front suspension I'll come back to this. and the Alpha code.

So can the ms3 command the he351v?

I will try this soon, but first must load the alpha code.

Also, I am running a tiny i/o board communicating in CAN currently. IT is used to generate the rpm signal for the stock ecu's crank sensor, to allow the stock tach to work in the car. (GM 3.9 V6 swapped into 05 subaru legacy AWD 5spd).

How would i wire up the HE351v into this ? Is it a sort of a series wiring?

Load the current code (1.5.0)

ok, for multiple CAN devices do i just connect everything in paralell??

IE: connect all CANL wires together and connect all CANH wires together?
I do not want to damage my JBperf tinyIO board. This is what I am using to fake the cam/crank signals to the subaru ecu for stock tach to work.

Yes. However, you need to make sure you only have 2 terminating resistors on the bus. The TinyIOx has a small switch which can enable/disable its terminating resistor. So assuming the other devices have their own terminating resistor (the MS2 and MS3 have one), you should set the switch to OFF.

The HE351VE requires a CAN baud rate change - that makes it incompatible with existing "Megasquirt CAN" devices.

Re: HE351VE CAN Broadcasting and General VGT Control

Post by farmerz24 »

Well that puts a stop to this project for me as I need the TinyIO to drive the stock tach and fuel pump of the car.
I suppose now i need another device to control the HE351 then use an 0-5v output from the MS to feed it a signal.

Or is it possible to reconfigure the MS3-PRO to have another CAN broadcast port by reconfiguring a unused input or output?
Would this be able to be done within the software?

Any other ideas to get this to work with the MS and still have the TinyIO work as well?

Not at the moment. This would require a device with multiple CAN transceivers, and currently there's nothing like that in the MegaSquirt lineup.
