Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
Sounds like there's quite a few basics to sort out here before you re-connect the Megasquirt.
Pull the plugs so the engine can turn over freely.
Charge the battery.
Check all power cables between battery, engine, chassis, starter motor etc.

Yes. But first the TFI module needs to actually be powered and working.tonawawa wrote:ok.

Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
Still no spark. I believe the MSPNP2 is defective. Just tried my first MSD distributor that I sent to MSD to get checked out. They put new parts in it and tested the electronics.
It cant be any other thing! No signal from Megasquirt.

Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
As previously discussed, TFI ignition is designed to be able to work without ECU control (for limp home or testing) - unless MSD broke that feature perhaps?
You've also previously said that you have the SPOUT jumper unplugged.
Have you performed the standalone tests that I've previously suggested?

Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
I have the MSD box disconnected, I am only using the MSD distributor. The TFI does connect to the computer, how can you run by disconnecting the TFI?

TFI can run the ignition on its own. YOU MUST TEST THIS.tonawawa wrote:I have the MSD box disconnected, I am only using the MSD distributor. The TFI does connect to the computer, how can you run by disconnecting the TFI?
If it doesn't fire the ignition on its own, then it is broken. That's why I've been telling you to test this for days.

Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
The TFI has been tested at Autozone and at MSD Headquarters.
How do you suggest I test it? unplug the computer and try to get spark???

This has been said before, but I will say it again.tonawawa wrote:The TFI has been tested at Autozone and at MSD Headquarters.

The TFI will work without the ECU even being there. Even if the MS was broken, the TFI should work in "limp mode" where it will give a 10 degree spark.
So unless you can get spark from the TFI when MS isn't connected, you need to find out why.
Re: Mustang mspnp2, msd 6al2, no start- but fires
No spark with MS disconnected.
What should I check now?

You're definitely using TFI?
Can you post pictures of your setup? Distributor, TFI module and anything else related?

Yes it is a Ford TFI ignition. Not sure how to send pictures but it is a MSD distributor.

You sure your coil isn't stuffed?

Are the distributor and coil getting 12v during cranking?

Do you have the TFI and coil wired up as shown in the manual?
