boot loader & crank sensor
Tuner Studio MS v3.0.18
(MS2/Extra 3.4.2 release 20160431 11:50BST(c)KC?JSM?JB MS2)
390 CID v8 ford 47LB Injectors 36/1 crank Missing tooth, Hall Crank sensor, Batch fuel injection,
ECU is a MS2 v3
I was having a problem with reading the crank sensor, At first was just getting 19 of 35 teeth reading. If I tried to save a tooth log it wouldn't record anything so the file was empty, same with Composite Logger. I then ran the coil and injector tests. the coil was firing. Only 4 injectors were working, had 2 injectors on each wire. Started doing voltage tests and found I had 1.3 milli volts going to body ground. added another ground wire(10 guage) back to the battery & totally separated the MS from any other fused systems on the car ie: accessories, Now I have no feedback. Done some voltage test per manual assembly and all OK. Sent the ECU to a repair shop and when I got it back I got NO reading using composite or tooth logger, coil won't fire, and injectors activate when ever they want to. Inquired about how to test Crank Sensor and it was Bad so I ordered another and checked it right out of the package and it's good, Further snooping I found a test to check to see if Boot Loader was getting the Right voltage and found 5 volts across the terminals which indicated a bad processor. As of now I can't get the ecu to read on the Jim Stem or to connect to TS.
I've had some serious issues with connecting to ECU using FTDI ( Brian at EFI was connected to my system for a couple hours & he couldn't get it right so my hat off to Brian) but I've put that aside due to the bad Daughter card(I assume).
Anybody got any idea's where to start testing? I plan to purchase another unit to assemble but would like to see if I can find out why this unit failed.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
I'm confused.
Why did you send your ECU away? Sounded like it was working??
Then when it came back it doesn't work at all? If that's the case it sounds like you need to discuss this with whoever worked on it.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
Near as I can figure is to either buy another Daughter card &/or buy another unit to assemble since I don't have the smarts or equipement to research this one.
Thanks for the help.
I'm posting the msq on the ECU when I got it back.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
Which boot jumper are you talking about - the one on the MS2 card? It is correct to see 5V across it.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
Different jumper. That's "H1 boot" on the mainboard.

http://www.msextra.com/manuals/ms2manuals/ those manuals??
1990 bmw 320i daily driver with m20b25 ms3 sequential fuel, 380cc injectors, d585 coil near plug, home made cam sync, launch control, fan control, vss, homebrew egt logging what's next????

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
sorry, I'm talking about the one on the Daughter card. H1. Manual states it's supposed to have 2 volts not 5v. It's used to load firmware. Since the Daughter card contains the comms I believe it is the source of the problem. So all I'm asking is if there are some things I can do to disprove it?
Thanks for your help
P.S. I've also noticed that the tune is changing without making changes. I have the msq's if you'd like to see them. the difference reports varies it.
Again thanks.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
That's incorrect. Please post a link to the part of the manual that says the daughtercard bootloader should be 2V.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
isn't boot on the ms2 card jp5? and h1 is the boot on the main board.

Re: boot loader & crank sensor
I hate when you guys get confusing me. ha ha
If yun read me first post it refrences ye daughter card, nutin said bout the main board.
her's a pic of da Boot Loader on daughter card
I'm might be just as well off to put da carb back on & go to the Goodguys show in Del Mar this comin weekend.
cheeryoh mates, see ya delmar
Re: boot loader & crank sensor
2v on the main board good, 5v on the ms2 card good as its a 5v processor. The voltage across "Boot" jumper H1 should be one sixth (1/6) of the main voltage supply. i.e. with a 12V
supply you will see 2V there.
it does not mention jp5 the boot jumper on the ms2 card at all.
the tune changing by its self sounds like serial corruption prob a bad serial adaptor

The usb DIY adapter was tested by independent, worked great for them so that problem is resolved.
Got any where else to look at.
