MS2 extra CAN
Hey Guys
Been playing around with the latest MS2 firmware and I have a CANBUS reader setup on my bench MS2 ECU now for the life of me I cannot get it to read any more than 2 can ids at one time. even at 1hz.
I have the ms2 setup to real time broadcast and have set id's 1520 -> 1535 to ON. I can read id's 1520, 1521 fine but thats all. If I turn off 1520 and 1521 I can read 1522 and 1523 fine. So it seems to me I can only broadcast 2x can id's at one go?
I have confirmed the CANBUS reader I am using works fine by connecting it to an OEM ecu's bus and reading far more than 2 id's at one time.
Is there something I am missing or can the MS2 extra firmware 3.4.2 only broadcast 2 id's at one time?
Thanks

Re: MS2 extra CAN
No problems that I'm aware of. Attach your MSQ.

Re: MS2 extra CAN
I tested your MSQ and it works fine for me. Sixteen IDs broadcast. 0x5f0 - 0x5ff

Re: MS2 extra CAN
Some can readers can be set to listen only or active and send the acknowledge bit for the next message.

Re: MS2 extra CAN
Thanks for that.
I think I have a problem with this reader I am using. But any way.
When the ms2 is broadcasting would it be safe to assume the messages get sent out in can id order? So if I was listening in at the ms2 broadcasting at 10Hz I should see id's 1520->1535 broadcast in that order ten times a second? Or are they sent out randomly?
Thanks

Re: MS2 extra CAN
If the ecu gets a acknowledge from the outside device it will send the next ID. Yes they transmit in order. If there is no acknowledgement then the ECU will keep blasting the same ID. I measured 5k hz chasing a simular problem as you last month.

Re: MS2 extra CAN
I see. Yes this sounds like something I should look into. I will read through the documentation and attempt to send back an acknowledgment for each message. I was getting in my head that broadcasting just lets rip on the bus one id after another and it wouldn't care if they were acknowledged or not. Thanks for that.

Re: MS2 extra CAN
The acknowledgement is at the CAN bus level and not something at a higher protocol level. What that means is that you need a CAN bus with at least 2 devices (the MS2 and a listening device) with the listening one not in a silent mode. The CAN hardware will then take care of it.

Yes, what Jean said. That's what I was trying to point out a few posts ago.
