Help with first wasted spark project
I am installing megasquirt into my v8 s10 and need some help getting started. I am currently trying to run the megasquirt on the Jim Stim. Here are the details,
Ms2 V3.57 pre assembled Diyautotune. It was modified to use with Ford TFI, the modifications were reversed.
It has been modified per megamanual to work with the Logic spark output resistor method.
36-1 trigger wheel
Hall effect sensor
Ls1 D585 coils
SBC
Holley stealth ram
LS Camaro fuel filter/regulator
I am going to use the db15 connector for the tach output. I used pin38 from the processor to go to the tach.
I started a tune, but I get the error messgaes when I connect to tunerstudio
Map Phase Detection Requires 1+2 cyl, Dual + Missing, Wasted COP and timed map missing
I am sorry for the stupid questions, I am just in need of some guidance to get started.

Re: Help with first COP project
Upgrade firmware
Switch ignition output to D14 and rejumper board.
Switch to wasted spark in the coils menu.

Re: Help with first COP project
Also in Ignition Options change Cam Input (if used) setting from MAP sensor to Cam Input.
Find the Manuals up top under Quick links: Manuals.

Thanks for the replies! I will make all those changes and see what happens.
Re: Help with first COP project
Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I attach the jumper to d14?
Re: Help with first COP project
Section 5.3 of the manual shows that.

Re: Help with first COP project
Ive read through section 5.3 and have not been able to find any mention of re jumpering D14. I have played with a few things, and now when I crank the throttle switch on the jimstim the RPMS spike for a second and go back to zero. Again sorry for repeat dumb questions. I am just lost and need some guidance.
Re: Help with first COP project
You want to change spark A from JS10 to D14, to free up JS10 for a cam sensor input that you will want in the future.
According the TFM in section 5.3.1.4 D14 is pad1 = spark A
You will find the other outputs listed in that section and instructions on how to use them.
Reading further down you will find your LS coil instructions

Re: Help with first COP project
Ok, so i had everything set up as it is written in 5.3.1.4 and I changed Spark A to D14 in tunerstudio. I had to build the circuit for spark D. That's where I am currently at, and am not getting any RPMs.
I guess I need to read through the manual again to verify I am not missing anything.

Re: Help with first COP project
Made the changes stated on this page,
https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... k-trigger/
And put the jimstim #3 switch to on. I now have rpms on tunerstudio.
Any recommendations or advice before I attempt to fire the engine in the truck?

Re: Help with first COP project
One issue I still have is the tach. I built the circuit explained on page 40 3.5.5 and I used processor pin 38 (IAC1/JS0). I installed a jumper from JS9 to S12C. I am using the db15 connector for the connection. I get error message Conflict with Tachooutput when I turn thnerstudio on.
Any help?

Re: Help with first COP project
Yes the conflict is that you are trying to use the stepper driver to drive your stepper IAC and your tacho. It can't do both things. One or the other.

Re: Help with first COP project
I have wondered if that would be an issue. Should I use JS4, JS5, or FIdle for the tacho output instead of the IAC output?

Re: Help with first COP project
FIDLE will likely be easiest. You'll need a 1k pullup resistor to 12V on the output.

Re: Help with first COP project
So I will need to place a 1k resistor between processor pin #34 and a 12v source? I will then just use FIdle to run the tach?
Re: Help with first COP project
You can put the pullup on the back of the tach even, anywhere that works best.Tonyorlo wrote:So I will need to place a 1k resistor between processor pin #34 and a 12v source? I will then just use FIdle to run the tach?
Fidle is pin 30 of the DB37, not at the processor.

That pull up creates a 12v square wave signal as Fidle (a grounding output) turns on and off with the rpm.

Re: Help with first COP project
Ok, that makes sense to me now. It will be much easier to put at the tach.
Re: Help with first COP project
Well I ran into my first issue, the fuel pump does not prime when turning the key, and it does not run when cranking. I've checked voltage from the fuel pump relay wire in both situations and I don't have any voltage.

Re: Help with first COP project
The MS operates the relay by grounding one side of the relay coil. The other side of the relay coil needs to get a key switched 12V. If you say that you have no 12V to the relay coil it can not work.
