M50tu
I'm having some troubles on my Megasquirt 2 v3.57 build for my M50tu
1. I'm not getting an RPM signal when cranking
2. I'm not sure how to activate Vanos with the tuning software. (I'm using a relay to activate)
3. Main relay stays on when I plug in the plug and play harness I'm building.
4. Glen hasn't sent my parts that I ordered 3 to 4 weeks ago. Money came out of my account but no parts

glens garage? if so bad news dude see here: http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... ns#p303735
if the vanos is an on/off type use the programmable on/off out ports to turn it on and off at certain rpm ect.
is it a 3 wire vr sensor? how its your board set up on the vr input?

Re: M50tu
I just got my money back from the money order I had sent. And will be ordering the Bosch bips
I figured out the tach input and I screwed up on counting the pins and have that corrected.
Now I just can't figured out how to turn off the main relay so everything fully powers down. Must have a diode or a transistor backwards. Ergggg
Does it matter which output I use for vanos

Re: M50tu
The output should not matter as long as its available in the out ports list, also make sure you build the appropriate transistor circuit to control the relay.

Re: M50tu
Okay I think I'm going to use iac2a for my output pin.
But I used this circuit to build the relay control. Except I didn't use a relay.

You are lucky to get your cash back! I use DIY, ninja fast shipping on items that are in stock.Johnsonmjm wrote:I just got my money back from the money order I had sent. And will be ordering the Bosch bips

The main relay thing may be due to a back feed.
Does everything turn on when you plug it in, or does it stay on after the first time you turn it on?
Use any spare programmable output to trigger the relay for Vanos.
You have not posted a MSQ so I cant see what ports are in use.

yeah I just canceled the money order I sent. Apparently it wasn't cashed yet so it was easy to get my money back.rickb794 wrote:You are lucky to get your cash back! But when I turn the ignition on the first time, everything stays on. My wideband puts a e9 code for low voltage so obviously it's not getting 12 volts anymore, but it is still getting some. I don't understand where it could be backfeeding from.

Re: M50tu
do you have any cooling fan relays ect that the ecu controls that are powered off a always hot feed

No I just have a Fan that's wired on a switch. It's 94 BMW 325is. Had a mechanical fan but I've had 3 of those explode so I wired an electric one in on a manual switch.grom_e30 wrote:do you have any cooling fan relays ect that the ecu controls that are powered off a always hot feed

Re: M50tu
if you are using the stock wiring how are you triggering the stock dme relay to power your ecu?

Yeah I'm building the pnp harness by following goathumper's thread on bimmerforums.
I used a tranisitor to trigger the main relay

The main relay should be triggered by the ignition switch...?

Re: M50tu
lots of bmw have a transistor circuit built in to the stock ecu when 12v is applied through the ignition switch this causes the circuit to ground turning on the main ecu relay supplying power to the injectors idle valve and the main power feed to the ecu ect. you need to replicate this circuit or re wire the main ecu relay so it gets a switched live to activate it as opposed to the switched ground its expecting.rickb794 wrote:The main relay should be triggered by the ignition switch...?

Re: M50tu
I wonder if its because I'm using the ignition switch pin to power the Megasquirt instead of using the DME relay.
I guess I could be getting backfeed from the megasquirt itself.
I'll rewire it and test later, but from what Ryan (goathumper) said. The megasquirt might not turn off and the engine could stay running but if its wired to the DME pin I don't see how that's possible.

Re: M50tu
my car is a e30 but its wired is close to yours i powered my ecu off the dme relay power supply, i used the transistor method to power it and i never had a problem. you get a cleaner 12v power feed to the ecu.

Re: M50tu
I'm just going to try to use the relay directly as a power source without a transistor. I'll see if everything shuts off as it should. I also corrected the main relay wiring. Leaving that circuit isolated from the rest. I was using that switched 12v to power my vanos circuit and idle circuit since I had to build my own because glen being out of business
I'll let you know how the test goes today.

Re: M50tu
Is a DME like an auto-shutdown relay on a Mopar?
The fuel pump driver circuit on an MS will do that for you.
Unless you are doing a PNP it's redundant.

no its nothing special just a normal relay, 'Digital Motor Electronics' is bmw speak for ecu
