Thanks Lav1000,
after writing the last post I went out removed the rocker cover and spark plug and found that the exhaust valve was opening as the piston was coming UP and stayed open as the piston went down!
I thought I put the crankshaft back as I found it but it appears I did not, though the timing marks lined up.
I will whip of the timing cover and see what I can find.

Thanks again,
Doug

Make sure you have the right OEM specs on this.
On some engines you have the situation that the outlet valve is stil open when the inlet valves opens.
There is a reason for this.
They use speed of the exhaust gas to suck the fresh air fuel mixture in.

Just a little thing called "camshaft overlap"...................

Your right Ken, and it is not so little. 8)
It is a huge thing in tuning and exhaust systems.

If your cranking compression is good the cam timing can't be so far off it won't run.
Looking at where the intake valve closes is (a better guage) a little less of a grey area as this determines your dynamic compression.

The EDIS has complete control of your ignition, the EDIS will make sparks even with the MS unplugged.

Your no spark fault is with the EDIS or its supporting systems.
Correctly identify your MS ecu here
Read the Do's and Don'ts to avoid the common pitfalls before starting your install or asking for help
Use only these manuals other manuals may cause brain damage or worse.

SOLVED!!! :yeah!:

It was "the old EYE DEE 10 T " problem. More commonly known as the IDIOT symptom.

The cam and crank sprockets were aligned, but 180 degrees out (backwards?). I was pedantic about re-aligning the sprockets but totally forgot to check which part of the 4 stroke cycle the cam was on. :RTFM:

Thank you everyone for your assistance.

Now back to fitting the O/D gearbox installation project that started all this 7 months ago!!!!!!
