Microsquirt connection problems

Hello,
I am trying to connect a microsquirt to tunerstudio MS however I am having a lot of issues in terms of connecting.

The serial port leaves the microsquirt as a 2.5mm jack, I then have installed a 2.5mm jack to serial adapter then a serial to usb.

When trying to detect device on tuner studio most of the time it will display no controller found.

However very rarely it will connect on com port 3 at 115200 baut but display the fault:
"Tuner Studio does not have a configuration to support the found firmware:Unkown
Required serial signature: 91"

I next went to update drivers for the serial USB adapter and check it was running at 115200 bits per second and this was verified. Prolific USB to serial comm port (COM3)

Finally I have attempted to bootload it and update it to "The current 'release' code for the MicroSquirt® controller is V3.830b." However when using the downloader and attempting to open it the downloader displays:
Opened comm port 3 at 115200.
ERROR: Timed out reading response, 0xE0
Elapsed time: 15.37 seconds.

Hi,
Just an update on this in case anyone else ever comes across this problem. It was solved by jsmcortina. It turned out to be a faulty serial to 2.5mm connection the pins were wired up wrong and after re soldering the pins to the correct terminals the fault was fixed and a good connection was made.
