MS idle control trouble shooting

Post by rickb794 »

4 wire stepper

Closed loop control.

Steps gradually increase to max while rpm is below target.

Opening the throttle slightly steps fall back to minimum yet climb back up when throttle released.

Occasional stalls (hard not a stumble or sag).

Percussive maintenance had no effect.

Stepper motor replaced, no change.

Log file is large (can email) was unable to catch a stall on log. But multiple times it shows the stepper opening fully without motor rpm increasing.

Try to set the power to 'always on'. Then you can try to increase the number of minimum steps to move and then the time step size.

I forgot to include that it has been running well for a number of years and only just recently began this behavior.

It does not do this right away, it will run fine for a while then wander off into lala land.

I will try your setting recommendations though. Thanks for looking.

Will the software keep trying to move when it is powered down?

Rechecked the idle settings and found the "hold current" option selected. I missed that before, it's not a selection I picked. Pretty sure it was correctly set to "always on" before. Maybe a glitch from a 3.3.3 upgrade to 3.2.4? Either that or a random mouse click while bouncing down the road.....

Thanks for the catch, Jean.
