MAC valve for idle control ?

Post by panel »

I was reading this success story CLICK and I noticed the car was running a MAC valve for idle.

Would this just be an on/off switch ?

Yes, it's just an on and off switch/solenoid/valve. I had a MAC valve (same valve people used for boost solenoid) laying around, so cost me nothing to try, but as I find out, this particular MAC valve internal openings are too small. Great for boost solenoid, but not so good for idler control as it can only raise idle by 50-100rpm.

I bought a bigger solenoid valve, hopefully it can raise idle by 200-300 rpm for my a/c, will try it out and report back later.

EDIT: Upgraded to Ford PWN idle valve instead. Should have installed it in the first place, much better idle control.

Thanks tryingbe ......MAC p/n if you could also. Would it be set by temp and/or for so many minutes etc? And does one port just go to atmosphere ?

Yes. What also works is using a cheapo EVAP valve. Raises the idle about 400 on my L28.

What cars do they come on? What would a setting in TS look like for these styles of valves ( the MAC and the EVAP) and what wire schematic?

EDIT: Found it on pg 37..... http://www.msextra.com/doc/pdf/MS2V30_Hardware-3.3.pdf :RTFM:

For my 2.2L, base idle is 950rpm. It raised my idle to 1250 rpm with no load, and raise my idle with a/c on from 750 to 850 rpm. May or may not enough for your need.

I just used whatever stock settings for it in Tunder Studio. One port goes to the air filter while the other port goes to a vacuum port at the intake manifold.

Flow direction is indicated on the bottom of the valve.

Is that valve (in the link above) the new one you tried? Is it similar to this one below?
