Re: Need help identifying this MS3
My guess is that it is a baro sensor, so its port should be open to atmosphere.
Re: Need help identifying this MS3
Is it possible to pull the current map from the MS and see what sensors were being used?

Re: Need help identifying this MS3
Sure, you will get the opportunity to load the MSQ from the MS to TS every time you connect to MS.
Re: Need help identifying this MS3
Ok, so I was able to connect to the MS and I think I saved the current map correctly. This is what I got.

Re: Need help identifying this MS3
A second sensor for baro isn't enabled in that MSQ, so the question remains: what is that sensor wired to?
Are you sure what kind of device that is, can you post the manufacturer and P/N?

Re: Need help identifying this MS3
I believe it says Yitron Technology on it. I'm guessing the part number is what's on the sticker?billr wrote:A second sensor for baro isn't enabled in that MSQ, so the question remains: what is that sensor wired to?

I asked the previous owner about it, but can't get a response.

Didn't get a chance to trace the wires down. I'll have to do that this weekend.

Re: Need help identifying this MS3
I did notice the vacuum line at the MS goes to the boost/vacuum gauge. There is a T but it's capped off from going anywhere else. Would any of you know if my MS has a built in MAP sensor?

Re: Need help identifying this MS3
Unless it has been removed, a standard MS2/V357 has an internal MAP sensor yes.

And based on the picture of your mainboard it appears to be there.jsmcortina wrote:Unless it has been removed, a standard MS2/V357 has an internal MAP sensor yes.

Re: Need help identifying this MS2/V357
Ah ok. So, just run a vacuum line off the T to the manifold?prof315 wrote:And based on the picture of your mainboard it appears to be there.jsmcortina wrote:Unless it has been removed, a standard MS2/V357 has an internal MAP sensor yes.

Yes if you want the MS and gauge to see manifold vacuum they will need to be connected.
Your TFI wiring and instructions are in section 6.3 of the manual.
Use only the Extra Manuals found here http://www.msextra.com/manuals/ms2manuals/
I think you will find that Tuner Studio (the paid version) is well worth the $.

Re: Need help identifying this MS2/V357
I'm a little late to this party, but it looks like you're on the right track.
You're '89 is pretty close to my '88.
'88's were Speed Density (except Calif.) They used a MAP sensor on the firewall.
'89's were MAF. They used a BAP sensor on the firewall.
These sensors are not used for the Megasquirt (MS).
I'm still running the TFI.
My Megasquirt is different from yours (see signature), it still uses the factory harness & ECU connector.
The internals are different, too. Both are MS2/Extra
You should use the Ford TPS.
Wonder why yours has an MS3Pro sticker?

Re: Need help identifying this MS2/V357
I soldered in a Ford TPS and actually calibrated it last night. Works great. From what I understand, that's just a sticker and means nothing.Blown88GT wrote:I'm a little late to this party, but it looks like you're on the right track.

Are you referring to the 3.57 hardware manual?rickb794 wrote:Yes if you want the MS and gauge to see manifold vacuum they will need to be connected.

Yes
The TFI instructions are there.
The MS3Pro sticker gives you a psychological advantage!

The MS2 can be converted to an MS3 with an add-on board.

"Those that know" will realize that a MS processor will not fit in that case.
And a MS3Pro is a completely different appearing animal.

Re: Need help identifying this MS2/V357
Update: finally heard back from the previous owner. The sensor on the firewall is for the boost sensor he was using. He confirmed I just need to run manifold vacuum to the T before the MS. Thanks for everyone's input on this!
