Need help identifying this MS2/V357

Post by ponie1992 »

Hey, all. I'm new to these forums and Megasquirt all together. I recently bought an '89 Mustang with an MS3 already installed. The previous owner stated it's already set up for Ford TFI. I've tried searching for this particular unit online, so I can find a wiring diagram. I need this in order to hook up all the wiring. Can someone help identify what I have and where I can get a wiring diagram? Any help is much appreciated.

To me, it looks like an MS3X on a V3.57 mainboard.
You can find the external wiring diagrams in the Hardware Manual from the links above, best is to download the PDF for "MS3X/V3.57 Hardware manual" from
http://www.msextra.com/manuals/ms3manuals/
EDIT: See next posts for more accurate info.

I hate to disagree with the master of MS but I'm pretty sure that's an MS2 V3.57. The case doesn't look tall enough nor do I see a USB port or SD card slot.

Feel free to disagree! You are likely correct. The black on black photo, post title and sticker had me fooled.

I can get more photos if that will help you guys identify what I have. I assumed it's an MS3 because of the sticker on it. The previous owner said he sent me paperwork and wiring diagram, but I've yet to receive anything. I just wanna be able to move forward with the wiring.

A "maybe MS2" with an MS3 Pro label on it? How about opening it up and posting pictures of the board(s) inside? Let's make sure this isn't a complete fake MS.

Just so everyone knows; Anytime you receive an order from DIYAutotune you get an MS3Pro sticker regardless of WHAT you purchase .

Okay, it's pretty clear now. That is an MS2 with V3.57 mainboard.

Ok, thanks guys! Now, do y'all know where to find wiring diagrams? The wiring is set up for Ford TFI, so I do see I need to reconnect two wires to the TFI plug. I just don't know what the other connectors and wiring go to. He also said the TPS needs to be a GM one?

I think I found all the manuals through this site. I'm sure I'll have questions for you guys as I go through setting all this up. This system looks to be very extensive and a bit confusing to me.

if you bought your car with it already installed, probably best to describe your problem. Did it once run correctly? Or is it an unfinished project?

The car was running. Previous owner had it set up with Ford TFI and was running a turbo. He said he sent me wiring diagrams, but I have yet to receive anything. I first needed to figure out what exactly I have and y'all answered that. Now that I know that, I can at least get started. I'll be posting in these forums, if I can't get answers from the PO. I'll be running a NA combo, so I'm sure I'll have questions on how to get her running.

I finally have everything wired up and all. Next question is do I just need TS or do I need the data log viewer software as well? Anything else?

My next question... I have what I believe to be a MAP sensor under the hood, but there is a vacuum line run to the MS. I'll have to trace down the wires from the sensor under the hood to see where they go. I've read there is a built in MAP sensor? Does the one under the hood need vacuum or open to atmosphere?Image

I'll have to trace the wires out. Just to the point now of getting into the MS. In other words, just finished motor and trans install, wiring, misc, etc.
