Newbie seeking help,and guidance

Post by Chopperman »

I have just purchased a new and unused MS2 for my Porsche 911-1972. I have tried uploading a photo of the pickup, coil pack, ECU, pulley attachment etc but my file is bigger than 1MiB. Curse you Mr Apple.
I am after the cable to run the ECU, cables from the ECU to the two banks of triple Triumph 955i throttle bottles, cable to the ignition coil pack.
I also need my hand holding while I try and find the correct direction of what to read

Read the hardware manual through and thoroughly.

Print out the sections that apply to your install to help you focus on only what applies to your setup.

Is the motor already fuel injected?

It's best to use a supply and return fuel system (two line) with the regulator at the engine to circulate pressurized fuel past the injectors and cool and purge any air bubbles from the rail.
A method of keeping a steady fuel supply with a low fuel level is critical, an in-tank pump with a sump or a lift pump to a surge tank is ideal.

You will probably want to use ITB mode which is a hybrid of SD and Alpha-N to tune it.
ITB's have unique needs and are not the easiest to tune, are you single spark plug or dual?
It is good that you have a crank sensor (it seems) this means you don't have to rely on a distributor for a signal source.
The benefit is no sloppy distributor and 36 impulses per revolution rather than 6 this gives the MS more data to determine crank position.
It also opens the door for a wasted spark if you wish.

Need pics to see what you are playing with for any other suggestions.

Thank you for giving your time to respond. I have spent many many hours this week trying to seek help and guidance.

It won't let me upload my photo of what I have as th S forum wants it to be less than 1MiB

i have read and read the write up several times but it is pointless if I don't know what they are talking about. It would be like a person reading my flight manual for a Boeing aircraft

It is a 1972 Porsche 911 which should have 6 naturally aspirated carbs, single spark plugs fed from a CDI which produces a spark that will kill-seriously!

It has a supply and return fuel pump as standard.

I have fitted a high flow, pressure regulated King fuel filter.

I have two lots of Triumph motor bike 955i throttle bodies. 2 x triple carbs.

A Ford three coil six plug lead ignition

Photos now added with the aid of my son who, I think is going to be helping a lot more.

Everything in the photos is what I have bought so far.

Megasquirt/Microsquirt is a Do It Yourself install and tune. Help is by volunteers, and you will be told "read the manual" a lot.

What exactly are you trying to "seek help and guidance" on?
Are you able to identify all the sensors you need?
Do you have wiring experience?
Are you able to wire up all the sensors?
What version of MS2 do you have?
Which part in the manual are you having trouble with?
Looks like you'd be using batch injectors firing and wastespark setup.
Do you know what the term batch firing and wastespark mean?

Try to find a manual whit the specific engine data like ignition sequence, ignition advance, and sensor location.
You probably need a wide band (lambda) sensor and controller, to check how the engine is running.
Use resistor type spark plugs !!

Does the MS have 3 high current outputs for spark?
The notes on the cover are incomplete.
A pic with the top cover off will provide clues. (well lit closeup)

Another user is doing a similar install and mentioned some issue trying to trigger the stock CDI unit.

Generally a carb fuel pump will not supply the pressure needed for fuel injection.
Most Injectors are rated at 43.5psi so use that as a minimum usually the pumps will go to 65-75psi but you regulate it down by bypassing fuel off the rail.
A common pump used is a Walbro 255lph https://walbrofuelpumps.com/walbro-gsl- ... fuel-pumps
A common regulator used is an Aeromotive 13109 A1000-6.
Or a Bosch http://www.new-part.com/product/porsche ... cg-133-030

You will need an appropriate cylinder head temp sender for EFI computer control. Bosch has them, not sure if your heads have a mount for it.

The throttle position sensor on one of the throttle bodies will work.

You will need a wide band O2 sensor and controller I like one that has a dash gauge because there is no check engine light.

Firing order

So with your six pack coil you will pair 1-4 , 6-3 , 2-5

You will need to check injector impedance and sizing, the cycle injectors may not be big enough to feed a 3.0L
