Hello everyone i am new to the megasquirt world. I am currently building a bmw e28 M30 turbo setup running megasquirt 2. I bought the megasquirt unit, engine and harness used i know it was running in another e28 before hand. The unit was built by previous owner. Just finished the swap, wiring etc and am attempting to start the car. Connected tuner stuidos and a message box appeared stating tuner studios doesnt have the configuration to support the found firmware ms2/extrarealease 3.3.1. Downloaded newest version of ms2 and then updated tuner studios and installed new firmware for megasquirt. 4 choices for new firmware appear in tuner studios (megasquirt module, microsquirt module, microsquirt module cased, and diy plug and play) After installing the megasquirt module firmware a new box appears stating software error, wrong coad loaded or unsupported invalid/corrupted monitor. Also says there is 13 parameters not matching up. So then i redownloaded firmware again this time microsquirt module. Doesnt say wrong coad loaded but says still there is a parameter not matching up. The tune appears to be there all sensors are reading but when i go to crank the car there is no rpm being picked up. I verified all my wiring to crank sensor even swapped out with new one. Megasquirt is putting out 5 volts to sensor and i have good resistance between wiring from crank sensor to dme plug. Tuner studios also picks up signal in the tooth logger during cranking. Sorry to overwhelm you all with info but i think there has to go to be some sort of firmware/software issue going on not sure which firmware my unit is suppose to have exactly ether? Any help or insight would be greatly aprreciated. Thanks- Nick

Can you confirm exactly what the ECU is? Photos? Web links?

Making sure you have the correct firmware loaded is an important first step, then we need to see a tune and log. i.e.

A metal case with DB37 connector and a vacuum connection is a MS.

Small plastic case with amphenol connector is a Microsquirt

A 2.5" x 4" white board is a MicroSquirt module.

A DIYPNP is an adapter board which supports a Microsquirt module.

the tune you posted shows a microsquirt cased (plastic box)
it has the tooth #1 set at 0 it should be in the region of 84ish, its set as a 2.0l 4 cylinder engine, your fuel afr and spark tables only go to 100kpa so not set for boost either, so there are a good few things wrong with the tune file.

figured it out, here is some pictures of the unit. I think when I updated the firmware or possible wrong firmware it deleted a lot of things from the tune. I am having the guy I bought it from email a copy of the tune.

Some kind of PNP.
Will probably use Microsquirt Module firmware, unless it has some smarts on the adapter board?
MapDaddy MAP with baro I see there.

The white board is a Microsquirt module and should unplug from the board.

Look around the large green board for a maker ID & board version?

looks like a diypnp, i think the small green board is extra injector drivers

Large green board says diyautotune v1.2 and white board says microsquirt module v2.2 (c) 2009. So should i be using the diypnp firmware? Or any other things to check?

fink its one of these: https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... ypnp-v1-5/

think you have to use the microsquirt module firmware. you appear to have extra injector drivers and 3 coil drivers as well so could do semi sequential fuel and wasted spark ignition

Will redownload firmware again this afternoon. There are 2 microsquirt firmwares to select one is microsquirt module and microsquirt cased? The firmware on the unit before i updated it to connect to tuner studios for the first time was ms2 extra release 3.3.1 and it said i had no uni file for it so that was when i udpated tuner studios and firmware on my unit

Yours is a DIYPNP(something)
It's a kit you solder & assemble yourself. Uses the Microsquirt Module.
https://www.diyautotune.com/support/tec ... ypnp/faqs/
Almost the same as mine except for the vehicle connector.
The light green small board is an add-on module. It should be labeled. I think it's an older JBPerf board.
I can see BMW on the valve cover. I don't know what kit BMW uses.
I assume you bought this used from someone with the same vehicle?

you want 'microsquirt module'

oh fyi if you had an internet connection when you connected the laptop to the ecu tuner studio should have asked if you want it to download the correct ini file from the efi analytics server.

oh and im pretty sure the green board is this: https://www.diyautotune.com/product/diy ... ction-kit/

Tell me what vehicle & then can identify exact model. I assume you bought this used from someone with the same vehicle?
Its for bmw e34 m30 i have it in my e28 running the e34 harness and engine just swapped it all in. I know the previous owner built the box from what he told me and it all ran in his car

I don't know which one of these uses the BMW connector. Doesn't matter except for the connector pinout.
