FC RX7 - Changed from CAS/VR to Trigger wheel/Hall

Post by distr0 »

And now I have no trigger signal at all. What am I missing?

MS2 V3 board, All wired per Aaron Cake's diagram (http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/Megasquir ... ematic.gif) and worked fine with the stock CAS.

New setup is the full function engineering Hall trigger kit (http://fullfunctioneng.com/product/fc-hall/) wired up as per the diyautotune diagram (https://www.diyautotune.com/wp-content/ ... mbnail.jpg)

What I changed:
- Moved TACHSELECT jumper from VRIN to OPTOIN
- Moved TSEL jumper from VROUTINV to OPTOOUT
- Jumpered XG1 to XG2
- Removed the LM1815 chip from the proto area
- Removed D1 and put a jumper in it's place
- Removed C30 and C12

And no dice. No signal at all on the high-speed logger. Picture (attached) of the board is before some of the above changes were completed, but gives you an idea anyways.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks
-Joel

I'd try bringing the sensor in through the VR input circuit instead of the optoisolator.

seems like that's the route that most people take.... so what's the point of the Hall circuit?

The optoisolated circuit is really intended for triggering off the negative terminal of a coil. It takes a fair amount of current and has a lot of built in filtering, both pluses for triggering off a coil but both of which can be trouble with sensors. It's better to think of it as the optoisolated circuit rather than the optical sensor circuit.

Section 5.2.3 & 5.2.4 of the Extra hardware manual covers using a Hall sensor.
2 jumpers on the mainboard will need to be changed R52 & R56 will need to be adjusted.
A pull up resistor may be needed.
Then the config changes needed in Tuner Studio will need to be made.
Correctly identify your MS ecu here
Read the Do's and Don'ts to avoid the common pitfalls before starting your install or asking for help
Use only these manuals other manuals may cause brain damage or worse.

thanks everyone. I flipped back to the VR circuit and adjusted the pots as per the manual, and it fired right up
