Jim Stim "bites"

Post by Hiluxfan »

Hallo everyone
I have just finished assembling my first Jim Stim.
It powered up correctly and everything tested ok. :D
Problem is that I can feel a slight "shock" in certain areas of the board, especially the metal part of the voltage regulator and on the earth pins.
When I insulate myself from ground it disappears. I've tried measuring with a meter but get nothing.
I’m using the recommended power supply from Diy and I've checked proper earthing.
I don’t want to connect it to my MS3 in this condition.
Please help!

could there be a solder bridge somewhere between a power source and ground?

How is you JimStim powered? That sounds like whatever you're using is not properly grounded. If you're using a standard wall wart, I would say that the problem is either the wall wart or your house wiring.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have to use a transformer here because the power is 220V. My soldering iron and power supply from DIYAutoTune are both 120V.
I think I’ve tracked it down to a faulty transformer. When the primary side is energized, I feel the shock even with the secondary side switched off.
I will try and find a new transformer but nobody here has stock. :(
