1976 Datsun 280Z - Powered by... Datsun, Ford, Cadillac, etc

Post by Hardwyre »

This is all your guys' fault and I love it!

1976 Datsun 280Z
N/A 2.8L Inline-6
MS-2 on a self-built v3.0 board from DIYAutoTune.com
Relay Board modified (1)
EDIS Ignition through GM DIS coils on self-made bracket and power plane (2)
1994 Nissan Altima Throttle Body/TPS swap with self-made polyurethane spacer (3)
Custom made projector HID headlights (4)
Dyno tuned by Travis (u/n: FastSpec2) at Fastspecialties.com/
Assorted little changes and add-ons (5)

Dyno Results! 151 ft/lb torque, 150 horse on a 34 year old car. The torque curve is d*** near flat! The "bad news" was that my injectors hit 100% duty cycle right around the 5400-5600 area causing the engine to lean out. It's thought that larger injectors should help make a fair amount more in the top end. She pulls hard and fast all the way right up to the point the injectors tap out and even then just keeps trying to pull.

(1) FIDLE relay socket rewired to IACA1 to control radiator fan since the socket would otherwise just be wasted and jumped for the PWM idle valve.

(2) Tore apart the GM-DIS controller, traced the pins, then used the existing plugs to manage the coil control and charging. Made it all fit onto a slick bracket. Potted with polyurethane.

(3) Virtually a direct fit. Had to build a space to place the throttle cable in decent alignment, and had to change some linkage components for the throttle shaft to throttle cable swap; but the new TB and old manifold had the same bolt pattern.

(4) High/low beam switching via solenoid-controlled cutoff plate. Custom housings utilizing an extra pair of H4 housings cut to fit HID projectors. Vastly superior night time driving compared to xenon or halogen H4 bulbs.

(5) Blocked off the cold start valve (CSV), put a fuel pressure gauge on the now unused CSV barb on the fuel rail, self-made bracket for the VR sensor, etc, etc.

My Datsun is powered by: Pick'N'Pull, Cadillac, BMW, Ford, HomeDepot, Volvo, etc, etc.
