MS3Pro, 2jz dyno results Volvo 940

Post by nathaninwa »

(this is a copy from another forum Im on)

Hi guys, have about 2500 miles on my motor and went in for a mild tune today. I have had issues on the Dyno before and actually lost a motor so I was a little gun shy. I helped tune the car at English Racing as they have never tuned MS before (well 2 or 3 a long time ago they said). I wanted a good rich afr, so gas is down in low 11's and E85 is upper 11's. Timing on each fuel is low, and I kept it intentional that way. Going to rock this setup for the summer, then finally install some S1's over the stock JDM cams I have right now. Im thinking with about 5 more degrees on ethynol (and at this point were not compensating timing drift of about -2 degrees) and a few more lbs I could have hit the 700 mark.

But this being my first legit 600whp motor Ill keep it like this over the summer, then retune.

Gas and E85 are overlayed.

Gotta say I'm pretty jelly.... I have a volvo 240gl wagon and my 1JZ powered 180sx... I want to put a 2JZ in the volvo someday and yours is... well, it's a great result! :D Video of you driving it? Plans to track it or is it just a silly street machine?

Thanks for the complments. Its been a long road after starting with the 8v moto, then building a 568whp 16v motor and ultimately losing it on the Dyno from a machine shop error. So I went all in on this motor!

Car is in paint right now and when it comes out itll be the annual IPD car show where we all get together afterwards and do some dragracing at PIR. Ill have some times then, but mostly its just a street monster!

I had spun a bearing and getting the car almost ready to drive again. This time around I added a second fuel rail to run dual fuel with the staged injection feature. Ill run E10 pump gas on 525 injectors and E98 staged through 1100cc injectors. Calculators show itll be close to E70 so it should still be a blast to drive with the fuel economy of pump gas.

If you have 12mins, I recorded my drive home today. Cold starts to town driving, and a tune pull near the end at 14psi. Im about of injector on the primarys and will try to finish off the dual fuel this weekend to run pump/e98 to about 35psi.

The dual fuel is all ready to run. Need for it to dry out around here to get some testing in. I have about 4 gallons of E85 in the secondary tank to burn up, then Ill get some E98 in there.

How are you using the dual fuel?

Gas for normal driving and then blending it with e98 for the higher loads?

Pretty interesting because corn fuel isn't really available here but i could do the same if i'm able to drive on regular gas for day to day driving.

I guess I should call it staged injection, running 2 indepant fuel systems. The car has a 16gallon gas tank and a six gallon tank welded onto that. I'll be blending via the table option.

I think I can run it also has a switchable map, so I can have a 15psi gas tune, then switch on the fly over to the 35psi blended tune.

Went and made a pull at lunch. All came together after a couple mild rpm runs that told me I needed to add ALOT of fuel up top since the req_fuel doesn't change. I was mid 90's on gas, now I'm close to 190 ve under boost!

Updates, let's see where I'm at.

Staged injection running dual fuel. Pretty neat. I have it start staging at 135kpa and staged by 170kpa. Took a little work in the ve table to make the transition smooth, but well worth the effort for the spool/power that ethynol gives us.

I just sorted out closed loop boost and really like the way it works.

Ive also split my tables up and am running the table switching feature using rpm. I made the table switch point at 3000rpm, so I have a fantastic cruise table with light boost, and then mainly a full boost table. Its in theory a 26x31 map table. Tuning under boost with that amount of resolution is pretty neat and I was able to scale rpm break points around peak tq in the 200rpm range.

Still tuning, today will be 260kpa, then 280, and 300. Thats My stopping point till I can get on the dyno to fine tune the spark map.

Ill post up some logs in a few days. still playing with ethynol ramp in and closed loop pid. Having a slight lean issue when I first roll into boost with the E98 being staged as quickly as I have it.

I need to also verify my afr readings underboost is matching my logs.

I have upto 14 tuned pretty good now. Ill work on more boost later this week. I kept having a weird rich condition with a spike in the primary injectors at the transition, and figured that out in the second short log. Right now I found it best to stage fully to the second setup. Ill revist the dual fuel later, but at the moment am mixing my own E75.

Car runs very strong and the transiton is seamless. The big help was the alternate reqfuel at 135kpa when moving to the E75 from 92 pump
