95 nissan 240sx LS1 swap

Post by nismoautoxr »

This is not a new success story but is a success. Car started as a bone stock 200k mile chassis when i bought it with a very good running 2.4l KA24DE engine and an automatic . This car was purchased in 2005 and started a new chapter in my life. Up to that point I was a die hard Hot Rodder mostly centered around muscle cars such as late 60s early 70s and very GM biased. I bought this car as a cheap ride to work and back. That same year I became involved in autox with the SCCA and later I became involved in the internal workings of that SCCA chapter eventually working my way intot he regional executive chair. Funny how a car can change your life ...but enough about that . First thing I did to the car was install a manual transmission in 2006 and did as many track days and autox events I could afford the time and money for . In 2011 ,I installed a diypnp in the car in preperation for adding boost , and did ,but this setup was doomed and plagued with mechanical failures ...m62 supercharger blowing straight in ...no intercooler. I am an avid track day and time attack guy so 20 minute sessions were too much for this setup and it kept blowing up . I then decided to go back to my roots. I yanked the 4 cylinder and installed an LS1 from a wrecked 2004 GTO and a 2000 camaro t56 6speed and couldnt be happier. I initially ran the LS1 with the DIYPNP for several months with good results and decided that I wanted more options so I have recently installed a MS3 with MS3X with RTC and Internal knock module with all new harnesses and a relay board . This is up and running and I am still im;ementing features . Here are some pics and a video from my FB page. This car is still a daily driver and prefer it over my 2004 chevy truck .

made it out to Barbers Motorsport Park for a true test of the build. The car proved to need more radiator and much more rear downforce and could use more rear tire. This run was good for 1:48.123 around the 2.38 mile that Barber offers. THe Megasquirt3 was more than willing to deliver.

Thanks for the ride along. Motor has got to have some grunt to keep it in the one gear most of the track. Good angle too of the camera.

Got the 240 out on the track this past weekend to test the MAF tune and tweak flatshift and other suspension related stuff. The car worked good and the flatshift worked fantastic . AFRs were very close going in but got better with some log analysis . Pretty pleased how it ran. Here is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF0EWrh ... tion=share

did some more tuning and chassis setup . Took it to Road Atlanta and here is some in car from that . I got a little irritated with the guy in the red camaro because he should have let me by going to 10a but he was daydreaming and then he was slow so that is what that was. I let the adrenaline get the best of me LOL. The brakes were pretty pissed off ...lots of rotor shake .Gotta work on that .

Sweet footage ricky! You made EVERYONE (for those who haven't watched: c6 Vette, gtr, viper) look slow!

Pretty surreal to watch in car footage of a racetrack I've only been to in gran tourism/forza

What is the rest of your s14 like?

Lou ...on the surface its an mostly unimpressive daily driver/trackday warrior. It is a SCCA logbooked time trial car but also is my ride to wherever I wanna go most days. I have a 2004 chevy truck to drive _if I have to_ but I prefer the 240sx. Heres a video that demonstrates why...a test of my progress so far with launch control and flatshift on street tires on a real street somewhere in the boonies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSoBn0Vh6JM

Here is a pic of it at BMP . Since this picture the front bumper has been replaced and painted and Ive added a set of 18x8.5 SSR lightweight wheels. Using the SSRs for the street and using the Enkei RPF1s for the Rcomps.

Most of what I do to the car is on my facebook page . That is really the only reason I got a facebook page was to park video and pictures anyway lol. Since the Road Atlanta trip I have installed 350zx Brembos on the front and am in the process of fabricating the ducting system. I plan to take it back to the track for some testing in March/April'15 to test that before my next SCCA event .
