1983 Porsche 944 2.5l NA Microsquirt

Post by feelingsupersonic »

It's been running like a boss for a few weeks now, thought I would share the build since a lot of other 944 guys seem interested in the conversion as Motronic parts rot away.

General build thread on Rennlist: http://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944- ... -more.html

Hardware:
  • Microsquirt controller with 8' semi-terminated harness
  • Ignition trigger: 36-1 trigger wheel on crank from GoingSuperFast, hall effect sensor from DIYAutoTune
  • Ignition: LSx coils running wasted spark
  • Fuel injectors: Bosch 0 280 150 431 which are high-z and will be good to ~210hp (applies more to 944S).
  • Air metering: 1 bar MAP reading from the manifold, GM IAT reading where AFM used to reside
  • Coolant temp: stock unit
  • TPS from 944 turbo mounted on rebuilt stock throttle body - stock TPS will not work
  • Idle control: stock auxiliary air valve, gets 12v from main relay
  • Fuel pump controlled by dedicated relay, activated by Microsquirt
  • AEM UEGO wideband O2
The wiring is much like any other car because the stock harness is gone. I made a playlist to document the wiring and some other install prep:

Car runs smoother than ever before, and pulls harder. Can't recommend this enough! I have about $1500 into the build if you include things like a timing light, wiring tools, etc into the equation. Someone who already has all that stuff or wants to do with less can do it for under $1000.
1983 Porsche 944 - Microsquirt V3, limited by atmospheric pressure.
1986 Porsche 951 - MS3Pro and a turbo as big as my head
