07 Miata Racecar on MS3-Pro

Post by prof315 »

Well I just finished stage 1 of an MS3-Pro install and dyno tune on an 07 Miata (NC) The car is in SCCA's Super Touring Lite class and will be competing in the 2016 season for a national championship. We aren't running sequentially yet but with untimed fueling and Wasted COP I was able to coax 15 more WHP out of the engine in a couple of hours than another tuner did in 4 days using the stock ECU! This was the customer's first experience with MS and needless to say he's pleased.

A quick update: after switching the harmonic balancer from the stock one with a 36-2-2-2 trigger pattern to a same year ( 2007) Mazdaspeed3 balancer with a 60-2 trigger we are now fully sequential. 5 of the 6 cam teeth were removed (too soon due to a misunderstanding of how the wheel decoder for 36-2-2-2 worked) for a dual wheel with missing tooth configuration. VVT has been turned on and is working so it will be back on the dyno this weekend.

VVT and variable intake control are certainly game changers! The re-tune picked up only 5 more peak whp but the average was up 25whp and we saw a gain of 40whp at 5500 RPMs!!!!!

And any one who thinks race motors with big duration cams can't benefit from an IAC....... how about a stable 1300 rpm hot idle with a 308* advertised duration cam in a 2.0L 4 banger!
