Toyota KP61 MS3 Rally Car

Post by tpsretard2 »

I have been a user of MS products since the very first fuel only boards by B&G. Through out the years there have been some wonderful advancements in the Hardware and Software. Where i live a lot of people think of Megasquirt as a cheap option for road cars. There are a few big cars where i live that do in fact run a Megasquirt under competition cars. This car runs the Megasquirt in one of the most grueling form of motor sport, Rally. The car is a 1984 Toyota starlet, the exterior has been kept close to factory as possible with small wheel arch flairs, a front lip and a rear spoiler. However that is where similarities with a stock car end.

The engine is the newer blacktop 4age that has been totally reworked. custom ported head. custom cam's pistons and a custom steel crank. The engine is kept at 1.6L and the head and compression is VERY aggressive and VERY angry. The engine can not be run on anything but MS109 race gas, even then tuning has to be done carefully as it will detonate that fuel in hot conditions. The engine idles at 1500rpm and rev's to 9500rpm but makes peek power at 8800rpm. It runs full sequential fuel and spark. Triggering is with a 36-1 crank trigger and a single cam pulse for TDC that is taken from an extended bolt on the cam gear with a GT101 sensor.

The car has won multiple championships and regularly bets many cars with higher displacement and power. It is a testament to the megasquirt's functionality and flexibility. Below are a few pic's and some in car footage of the car.

This one does not use the OEM CAS built into the Distributor.
We are using a 36-1 crank wheel and a single tooth cam trigger.
