David, Thanks again.
I did read that, I just didn't know if I should try it. Not being very computer smart, I wanted to do exactly as directed. I'm perfectly capable of screwing things up by myself, but getting the desired result usually means I don't experiment along the way.

Thanks for walking me through it. I now have megatunix running! :yeah!:

you didn't install X11 then if it's not there. reread the entire thread again and double check things.

ok, it looks like everything should have compiled.

just for the hell of it try "sudo make install" (if it prompts for a password, use the password u type in to login to your system) from the megatunix-0.9.16 dir again.. Also even if that doesn't work, "cd" into the "src" directory and try to run megatunix with "./megatunix" and see if it runs or errors out with a "things aren't installed correctly" warning.

Hello,

I have not yet attempted to install Megatunix but I'm wondering: At this point is DarwinPorts still recommended or is MacPorts the way to go? I have a G4 Powerbook with 10.4 if it matters.

Right now I'd try macports first. I don't have access to my MAC to test any longer as it's packed away for a move.

I ran into this just now too.

For those seeing this error, it appears that Macports 1.6.0 doesnt put /opt/local/bin into your path. Use the following to fix it, and for a permanent fix ... add it to your profile, and I would recommend doing that. I added this same line to the bottom of /etc/bashrc (you'll have to be root/sudo to edit it) :

Code: Select all

PATH=$PATH:/opt/local/bin
Do in addition to this, which was already mentioned by the author:

Code: Select all

export LDFLAGS=-Wl,-dylib_file,/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib:/System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib
It then compiled and runs fine on an Intel 10.5.3, w/Xcode 3.1 and Macport 1.6.0 :) Hope this helps somebody....

THANKS for the great app, I was really tired of using this crappy 486 I had w/MegaTune.
MrMiracle wrote:So close, and yet so far.

I started with the original instructions, everything has seemed to work just fine so far until I get to the last two lines:

make

and I get:
make: no targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

Last couple of lines from the previous step (if it helps) as follows:

checking for GTK... no
checking for GTK... configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.4.0 gthread-2.0) were not met:

No package 'gtk+-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GTK_CFLAGS
and GTK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Just for reference, I just installed MegaTunix 0.9.17 on a MacBook Pro with 10.5.4, XCode 3.1, MacPorts 1.6.0. All I did was set the PATH; the LDFLAGS bit wasn't needed. I can see GaugeDesigner and MegaTunix in /opt/local/bin, and I got no errors that I could see on make, but I can't test because my X11 seems to be fouled up at the moment. It just does nothing when I double-click X11. I'll report back when I have a chance to reinstall.
FWIW, I set the path variable in bashrc before I did anything else, then followed the MacPorts Guide to install MacPorts, then followed the directions at the beginning of this thread (update, install gtk and glade, config, make, make) and that was it.

EDIT: fixing quote tags.

It worked. I installed a newer version of X-Windows from the Darwin Project while I was at it. Finally figured out how to add /opt/local/bin to the X11 terminal PATH as well. It douesn't work if you just add it to .bashrc, you have to add a line to export the added path in your .profile:

Code: Select all

export PATH=$PATH:/opt/local/bin
Now to once again get the Prolific USB-serial adapter functioning.

I'm also running the XQuartz X11. It's usually a few steps ahead of whatever Apple has out.

Thanks for the tip on X11 path, I was getting tired of opening terminal :) I'm kinda new to OSX, and truth be told.... I'm using it on an IBM branded laptop

Hi I've followed the steps up to downloading the Megatunix and storing it in my home directory. However when I go to do the next step I get this error in the terminal window. I have no knowledge of unix so all this is new to me and I find this a bit confusing.

Last login: Thu Nov 13 18:47:45 on ttys000
damian-packers-macbook-pro:~ damianpacker$ tar xvzf megatunix-0.9.17
tar (child): megatunix-0.9.17: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
damian-packers-macbook-pro:~ damianpacker$

Any help would be good.

The docs said to hit the "tab" key afterwards so the shell would finish the files name..
The package name is most likely something like: megatunix-0.9.17.tar.gz, hitting tab would havethe shell finish out the rest of hte filename for you.

Re: The BEST way to install MegaTunix on OS-X

Hi I did hit tab and thats what it put in there I'll try manually putting the tar extension on and see what happens. In my home directory I have: Megatunix-0.9.17 2 folder and a megatunix-0.9.17.tar I'm not sure if I downloaded the right file from the two listed on the site so I'll fill in the command manually and see what happens. Also do I have to type all the commands written on the instructions in one line before hitting enter?
