Some basic Q's re firmware

Questions specific to Megatunix - alternate tuning software that runs on unix and windows.
Note that Megatunix is obsolete.

Some basic Q's re firmware

Post by rs2000 »

I'd like to give megatunix a go but aren't too sure how it works..

What is the megatunix equivilent of the megatune ini file? How do I specify firmware? Reason I ask is I am running a modified version of the std MSnS release, and in megatune this results in different menus and variables to edit..

Cheers

Dave can best answer this, but I'll have a go.
There isn't a direct equivalent of the ini file.
You have to use glade to rebuild the user interface and then edit the map files that correlate the user interface to the data.

The end result is prettier, but I'm intimidated by the work required to set it up.

How much did you change from stock MSnS-E?

MegaTunix splits things up to avoid duplication. (i.e. if you compare megatune .ini files by and large there is massive amounts of duplication). So in megatunix you have an interrogation profile that defines the basics about the firmware and contains info on which tabs to load, some special details about the FW, etc. the tabs themselves are designed in glade and have corresponding .datamap (ini style files) that define important info per variable (i.e. page, offset, limits, interdependancies)

It is hardest to accommodate a change that results in a SHIFT of variables around. (i.e. adding a new var at the beginning of a page and shifting everything off by one) means rewriting a datamap file (or several).

without knowing what you changed it's hard to say how easy or hard it would be. Right now though all my effort is focused on working on MS2 support (and finding a new job as my current one is going to hell)
