Megatunix on Asus EEE

Post by doggy »

Anybody here got Megatunix working on the Asus EEE 900?

Trying to get it compiled, but the default Xandors dist just wont let
me get the dev packages or getting GTK compiled :(

Anyone got a deb installation package or something that could get me started
with Megatunix?

Go read this thread. the end has a procedure..

Blame the difficulty on xandros's "crippling" of the distro for that hardware.

Thank's a bunch, works perfect!

That thread was just what i've been searching for the past days :)

Btw, your software rule! Much better GUI compared to the other MS tuning software!

Following that links gave me this:
"The requested topic does not exist." :(

Anyone got a copy of that thread? Just got a new Asus EEE PC 900, and want to try megatunix. Using the original distro. Thanks! :)

Unless you have a strong desire to build it yourself, I'd suggest using the repository. Should work on the eee since it's debian based. I know it works on eee's with ubuntu.

Instructions here:

http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=33924

The latest release (.18) is in "stable". The latest pre-release (.19pre) will be in "testing" as soon as I can get it to build. :-)

If you are using extra firmware, I have some experimental tweaked gui files which make some of the tabs more suitable for the eee. I'd install via the debs 1st, then if you really start to use it, let me know and I'll make the eee tuned gui files available.

Have fun,

Thanks for your help Alan.

I tried to install megatunix_0.9.18_i386.deb on my eee pc 900 with the original asus xandro distro. It complains about some dependencies:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
megatunix: depends on libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.20.0) but 1.12.4-3 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libc6 (>= 2.4) but 2.3.6.ds1-13 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libcairo2 (>= 1.6.0) but 1.2.4-4 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5) but 2.2.1-5 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libglade2-0 (>= 1:2.6.1) but 1:2.6.0-4 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.16.0) but 2.12.4-2 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.12.0) but 2.8.20-7 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libgtkglext1
megatunix: depends on libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.20.5) but 1.14.8-5 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on libpixman-1-0
megatunix: depends on libstdc++6 (>= 4.2.1-4) but 4.1.1-21 is to be installed
megatunix: depends on zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-1) but 1:1.2.3-13 is to be installed
May I update these libs to the latest version, or will I break the system? I don't know how much of this distro that is special for asus.

That's the core issue with the eee xandros. Many libs are old. Have you done an official eee xandros update yet? Some may update then. There are folks adding repositories other than the official xandros ones, but they do it with "pinning" in some form which I'm not fully conversant on. I've not heard too many horror stories, but since I moved to xubuntu & ubuntu netbook remix, I stopped watching the xandros eee stuff.

My current eee 701 is on ubuntu netbook remix. Santa brought a 901A that is still unmolested xandros that I'll try to load the deb on. I'll try to update from the official eee/xandros repo's to see if that helps.

If that does not work I may try selective library updating from other distros. If updating blows stuff up, I can always reimage from the eee dist cd. I want to find a way for box stock eee's to work, so I'll put some time into this. That said..... the eee tuned kernels for ubuntu make it the distro of choice for most eee owners. :-)

Have fun,

Alan
