Live CD - PuppyTunix, no install run from CD

Questions specific to Megatunix - alternate tuning software that runs on unix and windows.
Note that Megatunix is obsolete.

Live CD - PuppyTunix, no install run from CD

Post by tasmod »

Quite some time ago I posted a Live CD based upon Slax.

Well Slax has evolved somewhat and since I'm involved with Puppy Linux development I thought I would put MegaTunix on Puppy Live CD.

For those not familiar with Live CDs, they are a way of running a Linux distro without installing anything. As long as your computer can be set to boot from a CD then you can run this without altering your current setup.

I've called this PuppyTunix and it is version 0.9.2.3 of MegaTunix. It's in the Utility Menu.

I have this link only for a while so if anyone wants to download and then host I would be most pleased.

Download Here

You need to download the iso file and then using an iso burning software burn it to a cd. There are freeware versions of iso burning software available.

Can you use the Git version of MegaTunix instead? 0.9.23 is quite dated compare to current development. I haven't released the current version mainly due to lack of end user requests and current stability is in flux, though there was many improvements in overall performance.

I assumed the sourceforge link was the latest. Sorry I'll have to go back to look.

Nope. All development goes to here: https://github.com/djandruczyk/MegaTunix I could set a post-commit hook to e-mail or otherwise notify you, but it would probably drive you crazy.

I'm not up on puppy linux any longer, but if you can make it so it's thumbdrive based with a R/W portion, in theory it would be possible to make a "self updating" image that could query/pull current code and rebuild as needed. The Live image would be a bit larger as it would need the dev pre-requisite headers and compiler, but it would save from having to remaster it any longer, and make it essentially future-proof barring any really big architectural changes(library changes).

Yep, remember now the problem I had, Puppy dev does not contain all libs etc needed.

I downloaded latest MT but I recall having to trawl around for the libs to suit Puppy's compiling needs last time.

I gave up due to other pressures on my time. I'm in same boat again after this week (moving home Friday next)

So how did you get it to work from sourceforge? what is puppy derived from?

Removals men here so have to be quick, PC will be packed soon. My car is going into storage along with everything else.

What's happening is it's not compiling the binaries.

Right at the end there is a bunch of error messages relating to gtkglext.
Now this isn't in Puppy so I downloaded a Slax version, seems it's possibly not compatible.

Live CD
I used the 0.9.23 deb from the sourceforge link and extracted it and packaged it for Puppy dir structure.
Then I remastered Puppy to a live cd iso.
