MS3-Pro - Additional air temp, strange sensor scale/units?
Adding an additional air temp sensor of the same type as in my throttlebody, just before the intercooler to have a look at the air-temp drop.
Anyway, I added it to the Generic Sensor Input referring to the MAT sensor as reference for units/settings.
As you see the AirTempBeforeIC gauge shows 21.1 of "something" and the scale goes from -3000 to 3 ?
How do I get proper temperature units on this one?

Are you using the same bias resistor on that input?
The gauge min/max you can fix by going into designer mode. Right click the gauge, select Properties --> Gauge Limits and Values

Don't worry Phil beat me to it.

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Yes the resistance of both air temp sensors should be the same, so I had kinda at least expected the number to show ~10 deg C.
Will try designer mode later, but will probably not help if it just changes the max-min values of the gauge.

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Phil is not asking about the sensors resistance. He is asking about the bias resistor you are using in the input conditioning circuit. Is that 2490 ohm like the MS's std bias resistor for Clt and Mat?

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Ok, I didn't really install any resistor anywhere, just connected the sensor up to analog input2 and earth.
You're saying I need a 2490 Ohm's resistor in series with the sensor?

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Not in series, but rather as a pull-up resistor to Vref before the filter. Look at the MAT / CLT sensor schematics in the manual.

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Ok, guess I need to do some research here
A good starting point might be to buy some 2490 ohm resistors then I suppose...
Thanks for your support this far!

Re: Additional air temp sensor, strange sensor scale/units?
Ok. So if I understand this correctly, this is how I need to connect the sensor?
Where Rb will be a 2.49kOhm resistor.
What resistance shall I use on the other resistor, Rp ?

Re: MS3-Pro - Additional air temp, strange sensor scale/unit
2.49K
It might be worth adding this information to the MS3-Pro manual, I looked but couldn't find it.

Re: MS3-Pro - Additional air temp, strange sensor scale/unit
Rp is not needed because it is already present in the ECU. You only need the bias resistor (Rb) which, as mentioned, needs to be 2.49k. And use at least a 1% precision resistor.

Pull-up resistor sorted it out ;)

Designer mode, does that need a licenced version of Tunerstudio? Haven't purchased anything yet.

MS3-Pro comes with a license key for the full version of TunerStudio.B1ack_Mi16 wrote:Designer mode, does that need a licenced version of Tunerstudio? Haven't purchased anything yet.

Re: MS3-Pro - Additional air temp, strange sensor scale/unit
Yes but I just bought the MS3 Pro Module to mount in existing Bosch ECU casing and make it all factory look.
Hence no key. So I definately need it to get "Designer mode" activated then?

If it is not there then I would imagine it is a feature of the registered version, yes.
