Issue with installing JRE1.5

Issue with installing JRE1.5

Post by PlasticPower8500 »

I'm having some real trouble getting the latest JRE uploaded on my computer.
I just got a new tablet with Windows ME for the sole purpose of using TunerStudio on it.
Every time I try to install JRE I get this error message:
http://java.com/en/download/help/6000040100.xml

Yes, I am trying to install the proper version for my outdated tablet.
I have tried re-booting, re-installing, uninstalling, safe mode, etc. You name it.
Seems like a very common problem and nobody has a solution. Any ideas?
TunerStudio will not run under older JRE versions :(

Well seeing how this problem is so widespread and the solution is nowhere to find, I am pretty sure this page will be indexed and maybe someone will stumble upon this solution. All I had to do to get the installation to go through was locate the "Common Files" directory and delete the "Java" folder, then re-install. Bingo!
Got TunerStudio to load on the tablet! I'm stoked :yeah!:

JRE 1.5 on Windows ME used to be a problem a few years back unless you downloaded the windows installer 2.0 from Microsoft, but it look like sun has taken care of that now.
See if this helps:
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/win98_me.xml

Something to consider: the same hardware performs considerably slower on win98/ME compared to a real 32 bit multi threaded OS. My apps are very multi-threaded, so it will be impacted by the DOS under the covers. If you have an XP disk around, it might be worth it. But I know that can run into driver issues and what not.
Heck try it, if it works don't worry about it :)

Wish I could :D The tablet has a 200MHz CPU with 96 Mb RAM :(
Touchscreen drivers are only available for Win98SE and ME :(
But that is why it was $100. I am installing Win98SE on it right not because ME was really slow.
