Question for understanding: "Partial Update" possible?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Question for understanding: "Partial Update" possible?

Post by pigga »

Hi all,
In the meantime I got very used to TS (btw. its running under Linux very stable!). But I'd like to ask one question:
Is it possible to uodate just one detail out of a MSQ file into the Megasquirt?
Example: Everything on my Megasquirt workes fine, but the last modifications to the Afterstart Enrichmebts were no good idea really. So...all I need to to is to modify the ASE Settings back. Is it possible to load any MSQ and flash any detail into the Megasquirt? Megatune used to re-flash the whole MSQ in this case.
This would be a really great thing because I am owning a ready-to-buy free programmable ECU which provides this feature. If everything has gone bad, you open any older backup file, extract any detail you need and burn it back into the ECU (without reflashing the whole MSQ!)
Thx!

Where MegaTune always writes the whole msq to the controller, TunerStudio actually never does.... TunerStudio always writes only the deltas. It looks at every byte and only writes it to the controller if it doesn't match what is already there. An exception to this is if there are a number of bytes different on a page a of data, it will write blocks of data and in optimizing the block writes, it may write once chunk of say 12 bytes even though only 6 have changed as opposed to doing 6 individual writes. This is why TunerStudio writes msq's to the controller so fast.

So, you will never do a full reflash when loading an msq TunerStudio. Now if you are hoping to be able to open an msq with say changes to the AE and changes to VE Table1 and select only to load the AE settings... It doesn't do that, but that may not me a bad idea in the future.

Yeah, I didn't forget :)

It isn't obvious where the setting is, so I was going to ping you, but it sounds like you found the right click :)

Ah ok, I think I got it :-)
Although I have no idea if this would be possible with MS, I really miss this Function (or I love it at the other ECU however you want). This opens new possibilities. Maybe a freind of you figured out a good working COnfig for AE, ASE, AFR-Targets or...whatever. So all you have to do is to save the MSQ, hook up the "Target ECU" and say "Extract settings from MSQ". In my other project I use this option really often. However-it just would be a "nice to have"
