TunerstudioMS help

Post by pimpsmurf »

I'm working on a custom dashboard for TunerstudioMS and I've noticed a few bugs. The most annoying of which, and only one I can remember right now, is when setting certain things (such as the limits), and you accidently hit a button other than a number, it does a pop up telling you that you can only enter numbers. Reasonable enough, except that when you hit ok, you get the pop up immediately and you have to time your backspace just right to delete whatever you typed that caused the popup before the pop up happens again. haha. I also thought of another issue. I use a relatively slow computer (EeePC 701@900mhz) and when I set the frames per second too high, I get intermittent software communications interupts. This only started happening with the last 2 updates of TS-MS I believe. I used to run 10 FPS no problem, but now I'm forced to run 10 and I still get the interrupts. Tunerstudio MS is virtually the only thing running on the machine and I have 2 gigs of ram installed. I always have Anti-Aliasing off, obviously, and use the latest version of Java. Any ideas? I've datalogged thousands of miles, and this seems to have started two updates ago.

BTW, I love tunerstudioMS, and will gladly pay a reasonable price for the full featured version! I have a few questions about what that will include. Will the final full version include an SDK for custom plugins? What do you envision the plugins for? incorporating datastreams from other devices I hope! :)

I plan to install a 22" widescreen display I have here in the car to display my gauges and such, so a command line switch to go fullscreen automatically would be fantastic. I want to figure a way to get the computer to turn on and off with the car. With the EeePC's SSD, if I go completely bare-bones w/ windows (no explorer, etc) I can get it to boot in 10 seconds. :)

Sorry to double post, but I meant to ask, is there a list of what all the different output channels are? There seem to be several for injector duty cycle, afr, rpm, etc and I'm kinda lost. haha

Another problem I just noticed. When I attempt to set the decimal places for a basic readout gauge set to the AFR preset gauge so that it only shows 1 decimal place, it works. But if I click on it after doing that, it reverts to 2 past the decimal point. It's not a big deal, and perhaps I'm just missing something. Trying to help as best I can to get any kinks worked out quicker. I love this application and would really like to build a better custom background to have 3d looking gauges/indicators.

Thanks, I'll get the decimal places and number fields cleaned up.

I'm not sure what's up with the data drop out, I'll do some testing (Are you on Linux with the eePC?)

The Data rate shouldn't cause drop outs, no matter how high you go :(

The outputChannels available depend on the firmware you are using and are defined by the firmware developers, so you will get your best answers from the forum for which ever one you are using.

BTW, there is still a long list of upcoming improvements to the dash and available gauge styles. I just had to switch focus over to core tuning pieces for a spell, but I will be back to gauge improvements in a bit.

Hey man, it's all good! It's beta! :)

I myself am a programmer, so I understand where you are coming from. I'm just trying to help out. The drop outs could be from a variety of things, but I don't seem to get any drop outs with 10fps now. If they happen, they are rare. I am running windows xp on the EeePC because I had problems getting linux reinstalled. Initially, I used the EeePC for zt2 datalogging only, when I was tuning with a SAFC2. Now I've been attempting to tune megasquirt, so the poor EeePC has been struggling. haha

Let me know if there is any way I can help. I'm even willing to do technical/help writing. Whatever I can do.

It is the little USB->serial adaptor "mod kit" from diyautotune. I've setup the ini file according to the ms1 connection troubleshooting, and turned down the buffers as low as they would go. The thing is, it didn't use to happen at ALL, but I used to have a problem where the metal shroud on the usb cable itself would sometimes touch the megasquirts case. This would cause a hard disconnect occationally where I would have to unplug the USB cable from the computer and plug it back in to get it to work. We opened up the hole and that stopped. Then around a month later I reinstalled TS-MS because I thought I hosed something (turned out to be a real vacuum leak, not a calculation error. haha. -10InHg at idle.) In the process of doing that, I was playing with the settings for TS-MS's connection. I set it to capture as many frames as possible and it could only do around 15 FPS. I turned it to 15 and this started. With 10fps, it doesn't happen, which I believe was the default (you would know better than me. haha)

I've yet to get another connection issue since I put it down to 10fps. I hate these USB to serial adaptors. :(
