MSII rev 2.889? Small bug in new project creation as well

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

MSII rev 2.889? Small bug in new project creation as well

Post by Hey_Allen »

As the title says, I am trying to use TS, but I am finding no support for 2.889.

Admittedly, it's not that old, but when TS tries to access the server to see if there are any other ecu definitions to download, it quickly comes back with a "Server Unavailable" error.

The bug in project creation that I found makes it impossible to type in any name in the new project window.
If I erase the default "MyCar" project that is in the field, and start to type anything else in, it erases the text before I can type a second character.

This has happened in both the new 0.986.3, as well as on 0.985.1.
I am currently testing win 7 on my laptop, but other than this, it's been running fairly predictably, and much the same as XP, with the graphics of Vista pasted on. It might be the cause, or partially to blame, but I am not sure on that.

They sort of slipped 2.889 out before I realized it to get the ini in this last build.
So you will have to down load the ini from the regular site, click the "Other" checkbox and browse to it. It works fine, it just isn't in the build. The server is still not on, that is why you get the Server Unavailable error so quickly.

That bug, Thanks for pointing that out! I'll get that fixed.

Here is where you can get the ini for 2.889:

I am not able to reproduce the problem with the disappearing name after you delete it... I have a theory on the problem, it is probably specific to Win 7. I'll see it I can figure it out without a win 7 machine :).

I'll see if the copy that I downloaded will do the same thing on a XP machine, the next time I have that machine up and running.

Thanks for the pointers on the .ini workaround

Well, I tested TS with the reference 2.889 ini file, and while it didn't complain about an INI mismatch, now it complained about the gauges not matching the version. Can't win!
The gauges also started twitching rapidly, similar to a non dampened pressure gauge, even when the setting was at 0, so there may be something strange going on.

I'm going to have to see how this works in the long run, but it looks like it either dislikes win7, or something in the mismatch is throwing things off.

If you changed ini's on the existing project, the gauge cluster will give a warning because it was saved with the other signature, but only the first time. And for a change like that, there shouldn't be a problem. If there is, it will just be that an outputchannel changed in the new firmware version and there will be a big red circle and cross on the gauge. You can fix it with a right click, but you shouldn't have this going from 2.886 to 2.889.

I will look at the message and make sure it is not severe sounding :) Or perhaps I can eliminate it completely on an ini change.

If you create a new Project there should be no warning message.

The twitching... Does have me a bit concerned for win 7. That sounds like a Comm problem. Hopefully it is not my Comm driver. :)

Are you using a real Serial, or a USB converter?
Are you on the bench or in a running car?

On other OS's the most common cause of that twitch is a lousy USB to serial cable.
