Datalog bug and request

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Datalog bug and request

Post by UnaClocker »

First the bug.. In the latest version (as of a day or two ago, the one that ends in .5) I shut the engine off without stopping the datalog, and then stopped the datalog a moment later.. I got some SERIOUSLY erroneous information after the shutdown (there was a reset logged, and then all kinds of crazy info started coming in). Only happend to me once though, haven't seen it happen again.
As for the request.. I can't start datalogging without the MS on.. This makes datalogging cold starts a bit harder.. I'd like to be able to toggle datalogging on or off independently of the MS status, like I've always done in MT.. :)

I agree; I'd like to be able to datalog regardless of MS state.
I'm hoping what we're asking for is not too far-reaching as far as how comms work in TS

Code: Select all

I agree... I think I just added the enable disable when i was rearranging the menus, but then when I was using it in the real world I sort of came to the same conclusion. It seemed silly to have to turn the key on then start a log :) That is just commenting out a line of code.
I got some SERIOUSLY erroneous information after the shutdown
Did you get a prompt when you turned the key back on about a mismatch of settings on the controller compared to the loaded tune?

Last week I drove to the grocery store, shut off the car went inside and when i came back out and turned on the key, I go this prompt where there were 24 different settings. I selected to let it load the controller settings and all of page 1 was 0's, so naturally everything was wacky. I haven't been able to reproduce this though.

I don't think I turned the car back on afterwards, I had only wanted one quick run that day..

Seems I'm getting erroneous information in my datalogs all over the place, now that I've done more datalogging. Just one entry here and there, with CRAZY information.. Really makes viewing the log in MegaLogViewer screwy because the scale is all outta wack due to the bad entries.. I'm also getting reset markers where none should exist, the log is smooth as butter right through the event, and so was the car. I can see the gauges on the screen go nuts when these events happen. Even happens on the jimstim on the bench with a clean power supply. I guess it's my USB adapter. I tried plugging it straight into the laptop and using a serial cable from it to the MS, rather than plugging it in to the MS and using a USB cable to the laptop. No change. Different ports, no change..
In windows, this adapter doesn't work very well with MegaTune, MegaTune locks itself up solid when I power off the MS with this adapter.

I hate USB. I hate serial. Grrr.. :)

I have TunerStudio doing a lot of self tuning on the comms tuning in the recent versions to get the fastest possible throughput. I think I may be letting it push a little too far for some types of connections.

I have pulled back on the thresholds for the next release, hopefully that gets it in order.

I think it's my USB adapter. Even when running Windows in parallels on the machine, and using MegaTune, I see the gauges blip out on a regular basis. I hate USB adapters.
