Composite logger

Post by racingmini_mtl »

I just tried the new v0.988.4 version and it's great to see the composite logger AND that it's working with the alpha V3.0.3 code.

Thanks!

Cool... I appreciate some testing with dual channel. I think I have it nailed down pretty well, but I was having some hardware challenges, so I couldn't test all aspects.

James has another logger in there that is similar to the composite logger but doesn't trigger a read until there is a sync error, I need to add that one, it shouldn't be a big effort.

The composite logger seems to be good, but the normal tooth logger display appears to be broken? (Logs are ok)

Doesn't show any teeth, just a single vertical line on the left.

Hmm, I'll have to check it out later. I had it on an MS1 last night and didn't think I mucked with that code, but who knows :)

James, the tooth logger seems good here, but I do see a problem with the single edge composite logger. Every few screens it is coming through as a straight line. This is only if you are running high enough rpms the logger can't keep up.

Is this the one you are talking about?

Or let me go try it out on a linux machine too.

I also noticed the ToothTime was wrong on the MS2 Trigger and Tooth Loggers. I forgot to put the tick time scale in the meta data.

False alarm, this looks to be an issue with the data fetched from MS3. The teeth are there, just the first tooth is reported as such a huge number that the others don't show up.

That false alarm was entirely my fault, TS is showing a good graph now my firmware sends it the right data!

Is there a way to visually display a saved csv composite log?

I can't seem to get my head around this 4G63 composite log file I was sent to check

Thanks!

Dumb question1: What is the purpose of the composite logger?
Dumb question2: Does it have any value when running EDIS?
Kind regards

The composite logger is an addition to the tooth logger and trigger logger. All 3 are different ways to view the input signals from your crank/cam trigger wheels.

James added new data output for the Composite logger to the MS2 Extra 2.1 code and it provides a scope like view of the signal your MS is seeing from your trigger wheels.

So it is really for diagnostics when you are having trouble with a trigger wheel.

Philip Lochner wrote:Dumb question1: What is the purpose of the composite logger?
As a debugging tool. In certain modes it can record the digital input signal to the Megasquirt like a two channel oscilloscope.
I have found it particularly useful in helping users understand sync loss problems as the false triggers are recorded and can be identified by (somewhat laborious) spreadsheet analysis.

It can can used both during cranking and running.

I have used it personally to make code improvements for noise filtering that turned my MS3 prototype setup from a poorly running engine that kept stalling (code error) into a night-and-day difference sweet running engine with the right noise filtering and code enhancements.
Dumb question2: Does it have any value when running EDIS?
Not a lot as only the "active" edge of the PIP signal is captured. The simpler trigger logger would likely be as effective at showing any false input pulses.

Thanks James.

The reason I ask is because with the late beta code I've had very high rpm spikes during cranking that I've not had before on the same hw. Car still starts fine despite that so I did not bother much. Just wondered if this would get me closer to where to change what.
Kind regards
