AFR is stuck reading Volts.

AFR is stuck reading Volts.

Post by Nitrobanshee »

I have always ran MS2, I tried to help someone with MS1extra 029y4 and can not figure out how to change the O2 to read AFR instead of Volts. I think in Megatune that you can change it in the configuator, but this may be only for MS2, I dont know. How can I change O2 volts to AFR using TunerStudio?

What do you want to change to AFR from volts? Gauges & logging or AFR target tables?

On MS1 if you are running a Wideband, you will get AFR on your gauges and logging if it is set to a wideband in the "Project Properties" dialog on the Settings tab.

However, your AFR target tables will be in AFR or volts depending on what sesor you are running. Most are in AFR, but there are some that are in Volts.

Sorry I was not to clear, what I wanted to change is the Dash and logging to read AFR instead of volts. I am running a JAW wideband, but under project properties I call it a LC1 and the gauge still reads in volts. Will Ve analyze work right if it reads volts instead of AFR?

With MS1 Logging is always in Volts as O2, just select your O2 sensor from the menu in MLV and it will create the AFR(WBO2) field.

VE Analyzer will still work as MLV will use the AFR it created from O2 Volts.

However, you should be able to see AFR on the gauge in TunerStudio. If LC1 is selected in Project properties, then you should be able to right click on the gauge and select an AFR gauge from "Gauge Templates"

Let me know if is isn't there.

Sweet I will try this next time I see the car again, by the way this car has a stock GM 6.0L and is already 650hp at the tires with a big turbo.

Thanks alot, Jeremy

I know the AEM 30-42xx isn't in AFR (the lambda tables at least) for MS1. You have to go into the INI file and change a few things as well as change the units from Volts to AFR in your MSQ. Otherwise you will get errors. this may or may not be relevant to your problem...

Yeah the AEM 30-42xx and a few others are in volts on the AFR target tables, but it still has an AFR gauge and logs O2 that MLV can convert to AFR...

Some of these are because they are not linear outputs, so they use an inc file to convert the volts to AFR, but the inc doesn't give the mapping to go back the other way; Turn AFR typed into the AFR Target table into the volts used inside the firmware.

Others are still in volts only because the ini entry has never been included in the regular releases, I think that is the case for the AEM 30-42xx.

In both cases it isn't hard to solve for, if you have the data or formula. But MS2 has solved it in a different way. The firmware uses AFR internally instead of O2 volts. So there is not need for sensor specific translations in the tuning app / ini file.

Copied from my site:
  • 1. Open msns-extra.ini in a text edit. Notepad is available on Windows systems so you might as well you that if you don't have an advanced text edit. For me, this file was located under: C:\Program Files\MegaSquirt\MegaTune225\MegaTune2.25\mtCfg\msns-extra.ini

    2. Scroll down to #elif AEM_LINEAR. This can be found on line 808.

    3. Change the code from:

    Code: Select all

    #elif AEM_LINEAR

           afrBins1   = array,  U08,     0,  [8x8],  "Volts",       0.0196,      0,    0.0,   5.0,     2
    to

    Code: Select all

    #elif AEM_LINEAR

           afrBins1   = array,  U08,     0,  [8x8],  "AFR",       0.038666,      255.0,    10.0,   20.0,     1

    4. Now you are going to need to edit your MSQ file. Otherwise, you will get an error saying that units do not match. Search for (line 586):

    Code: Select all

    <constant cols="8" name="afrBins1" rows="8" units="Volts">
    and replace it with

    Code: Select all

    <constant cols="8" name="afrBins1" rows="8" units="AFR">

    5. If you originally had AFR target defined in voltages, they will not appear correctly in MegaTune once you re-open your MSQ for editing. You will need to re-enter in the AFR target, but this time in AFR format instead of volts.
