connection issues

Post by bornagain »

okay so first off the background

running ms2 v3 with ms/x 2.1.1b wasted spark 60-2 wheel and vr. fan relay cuircit, and its all on a m30b32 with a garrett gt3571 and 62lb/hr injectors, 2 wire idle valve in warm up mode. If there is more about my setup you need to know ask.

So what i have been experiencing is, when the car is off i have no problem holding a connection with the ms unit and when the car is cooler it stays connected with "more" suscess but when the car is up to temp it seems to drop connecting and ts goes "not connected" this is all a bit of a pain when trying to log and tune when up to temp. now i have used my laptop and my cable on a friends car using the 3.57 board and i didnt have problems with it, mind you i didnt see much run time. So today i was thinking it was my vr sensor causing the drop out due to the sync errors #2 popping up in my logs, but after getting my vr signal as close to perfect as i possibly could(better then it ever was) and it was still going "not connected" with ts. If i was quick about it i could unplug the usb cable and plug it back in and it would re-enable.

I have been doing as much reading as my eyes can handle but im at the point where i need a nudge forward to finding the issue. If you will, a bit of guidance.

Thanks steven

Are you getting any resets in your logs? Does SecL go back to zero during your logs?

This sounds like the noise in the comm cable. Some cables, don't have enough shielding to keep out the EM noise inside a running car very well. I have seen a number of cables that ran great on the bench for hours on end, but as soon as I try it in a car, they loose connection. If you are using a usb to serial cable, try a different one.

that was kinda what i was thinking and to boot my passive cross overs for my front speakers are in the glove box too. do you suggest another cable or a pcmcia card? And looking at my cable right at the end of the cable nearest to the ecu it looks like it has been pinched a bit.

What are you running now, are regular serial cable?
Most of the decent real serial cables work fine, the noise problems are more common in usb to serial type cables. So if it is a real serial cable and it looks pinched, you will probably be good with a new cable.

usb to serial from diy. its a 2 peice cable and to be honest i always hated how short the cable was so i think itll be easier to find a new cable then the pcmcia card for my laptop.
